So my hoa has a regulation that if you need to fix any plumbing that requires the water to be shut off to the building, you have to hire a plumber to do it for insurance purposes.

My shower has a Kholer single handle and it was starting to leak. And by leak, I mean run non stop.

I called four plumbers over the last few weeks trying to get someone in.  I know how to fix this. It's about a 15 minute job.  Every plumber I talked to wanted $600 to replace the cartridge not including the price of the cartridge, plus travel time.

So long story short, I told ST to suit up and were going to get up at 2am and do a sneak attack.

We had the thing fixed in about 1 hour - it took that long for the water pressure to drain out (I live on the second level of a 3 story building) but it's finally done.  lol.

I think that I chose the wrong trade.  I would take $600 to do that little of work.

You're going to have to read between the lines on that one.   I'm not a plumber.  :D

Actually, the job itself took 'me' about 30 minutes. Most of the time spent was waiting for the water pressure to drain.  There are four condo's above mine so that was a lot of water that had to drain down.

Every time time I try plumbing to fix a leak I end up with 4 leaks and water in the floor and then call a plumber.

I'm not going to lie, I wasn't 100% confident that this was going to work.

I started at 2am just in case.

There was some calcium build up in the body that made it difficult to get everything to go together. I thought about that ahead of time and had some clr and a scotch bright pad ready to go.

I had to clean the shit out of it before everything would fit.  I probably used too much lube (is there such a thing?) and it slid right in like a ***********  leaving that one to the imagination.

So far, no leaks.

And here is the reason every unit should have its own main shut off. Why affect multiple units when a $10 valve should have been installed?

I would have loved to see the faces of the upper units the next morning hopping into the shower with water and compressed air blasting them in the face.

Every faucet in my house has it's own individual shutoff.  I assumed that was standard.  There should be no reason to turn the water off to the entire building to replace any faucet parts.

Certain things I will do. Other things I will hire professionals for. Also depends on time.

It should be. I've seen Kohler inserts with shut off valves at the insert.  This is a condo so no love there.

If I have a house built I know what to do  now.
