or pretend to work somewhere else

QuoteTesla CEO Elon Musk apparently sent an email to the electric car company's executive staff—was shared on social media on Wednesday—that nixed working from home, saying anyone wishing to work remotely must work from the office "for a minimum (and I mean *minimum*) of 40 hours a week," or they must depart the company.

Responding to a tweet about the email leak, Musk did not confirm or deny it, but suggested it was authentic, writing, "They should pretend to work somewhere else."

Under the subject line "Remote work is no longer acceptble" [sic], Musk wrote the 40-hour requirement is "less than we ask of factory workers."

Musk said the office must be "a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties," and gave an example of a worker living in a different state from a factory they are responsible for.

I was reading about this this morning.

I wonder why he would care where the work is getting done as long as the work is getting done? I could see an argument for not trusting people who sit at home although it seems like most people think that they get more done from home. But why would he care if they are working from another factory that might be more convenient to the employee.

Of course, the article I read this morning called Musk out for his China factory where employees are working 12 hour shifts and sleeping on the floor.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

He's got people managing factories in California from their homes in other states
That can work on a short term basis, long term, no way.

12 hour shifts...

Part timers apparently.

The word on the street is employees and former employees alike call the company "Stressla". At Spacex, OT is mandatory and you are expected to work a minimum of 50 hours. 60 hours or more is encouraged. Tesla and Spacex are meat grinders. The "job" is sexy as hell. The work... greuling.

On the same subject, I've read that there are a lot of Cali government employees
riding their state gravy train jobs remotely from out of state on a permanent basis.

I'm waiting for the day my kids move out of this shit hole of a state. One is actively looking for the right situation and he takes 4 grand kids with him so my wife will be torn. States under consideration for him are Montana and Wyoming. We would not be far behind I'm guessing. I just need to be within an hour or two of an airport and I'm good to go anywhere. I'd love some property where I can put a nice 2,000 yard range on. That would be perfect.

Democrats have ruined this state.

To be fair, it was a message to the high end management types. Being that they actually make cool shit, average joes must show up the the factory. Setting a good example....

QuoteThe more senior you are, the more visible must be your presence. That is why I lived in the factory so much – so that those on the line could see me working alongside them. If I had not done that, Tesla would long ago have gone bankrupt.

Can't disagree with that. As someone who has spent most of his career on the floor I know I would not be overly motivated to bust my ass if a good portion of management was not showing up in person. As usual management who already gets the most pay and perks wants more.

email leak of Musk reducing the workforce by 10% has the stock tanking this morning.  :o

Probably just cutting dead weight honestly. I was in the Fremont, California R&D Facility a while back and I was talking to a manager. He half-joked that Stanford Engineer Grads could/would just show up, pick an open desk and get to work and HR was an afterthought.

Not saying 100% this is the case today, however, it would not surprise me one bit.

yeah, further info says they are cutting management types. No hourly production workers are in danger.
Pretty amazing how they get the top talent out of university. Looking at some of the prints these newbies come up with, not so much.
