Man, it was really hard to come back to work after the tour I just went on.  This place is a medium sized business with maybe 200 employees?  I think they had around 25 DMGMori 5ax machining centers of various flavors, 7 or 8 NICE mill-turns, huge VTL, Three DMGMori Horizontals, CNC id/od grinders, and an Impressive metrology dept.
Even with all these machines running, you could just about eat off of the floor.

What are ya'll workin with?

Maybe look at it more as inspiration for where a shop can go if its done right. Remember almost all shops started small and work hard and smart to make it where they are today.

I'm rocking:
2014 VF4SS w/ TRT-210 5ax
2016 Wenzle XO CMM w/Revo 2

Possibly looking at an Erowa Loader. That would be fun!

I'm the only engineer/machinist here, with a Hurco VM1 and a DMG NLX2500, among a few manual machines as well.  Our shop is brightly lit, 72 degrees year-round, epoxy floors that are cleaned weekly.

I worked at a much bigger shop for a summer during college that wasn't air conditioned, was poorly lit with dingy floors, and told myself I would try my best to never have to work in conditions like that again.

I lost count of how many spindles we have anymore.
35 or so mill spindles. Horizontals, 5ax, a few verticals. Majority are Matsurra. Few Robodrills & DMG's mixed in.

Lathe spindles, at least 30 more. A few mill-turns.

Then there are the wire EDM's, an Amada laser, Flow waterjets & a bunch of manual stuff.

greener pastures for this guy .
just accepted an offer for a new job after thirteen years of getting tanked on wages .
$12.00 an hour more , all new machines , mostly okuma ,
sounds like YO doug's shop when its finally done ,
I'm getting in on the start of a brand new shop 7 miles from my house .
training at mother shop an hour drive for a month.
vindication , been telling my current shop that they are paying too low to keep good help for years
