That's technically illegal in the state, IIRC?
But yeah, interesting scam...sent the young bulls out on a 'mission' while the oldsters get to perv on the new blood.

Back in the late 50's / early 60's my Mom & Dad moved from PA to CA because my dad's brother was stationed there in the military and he said there were lots of good paying jobs to be had there.

I was actually born in San Mateo, but my folks moved back east to PA after only a few years because my Mom was homesick.  My Dad was working for Safeway at the time, and he was offered a Manager position and a transfer to one of the first stores they were opening in Hawaii back then.  But instead of moving even further west, they decided to move back home.  My Dad often wondered how things would have turned out if they chose to move to Hawaii instead, but Mom was really missing family and friends at home so they came back to PA.  We have been here ever since...

Normally I will have the sound on my cars GPS turned off. Every once in a while it gets turned back on somehow. Then I get to listen her (GPS) and my wife (thinks she knows better than GPS) both telling me I am going the wrong direction. That alone should deter anyone considering polygamy.

My little brother has been living in Utah for about 4 years now and is really liking it! (They were in Chicago before that).

I have often wondered how much we like a *place* actually has to do with the people we get to (have to?) deal with-friends/family, co-workers/customers, etc. My wife and I occasionally think about moving back to the Midwest (I grew up there, she's from CA but loves it every time we visit), but I try not to indulge in "the grass is always greener" type of thinking (I believe it's really a subtle form of self-deception), but I feel like your life happens wherever you *make* it happen.

I laugh at the irony of living in a rather beautiful part of the country, but spending most of my time indoors working in/on the business! Hey, at least we open the roller doors most days-LOL! I've wondered if it would really be terribly different doing this sort of thing in IL vs CA...?

They're more into killing and shooting in Illinois but if you're into that sort of thing District Attorneys are notoriously lenient on such behavior so that might be a positive.

I resemble that remark. Why not 7 some ask? Even God had to rest one day a week.

We haven't been back in about 3 or 4 years, but if I recall correctly, most of the shootings occur on the south side-it's not like it happens everywhere, despite what folks might think from watching the news. (I'm not saying that I'm unconcerned because I don't visit the south side, but it's not like that everywhere). I'm due for another HS reunion in a year, so I'll have to poll my former classmates to get the "real" story.

Sadly, my general read on how the news media works these days is as follows: figure out what market you want to target, and "give the people what they want." The "conservative" media seem to want to find all sorts of reasons why things are going sideways in liberal land (welfare mommas/the wackos in CA/they're coming for your guns/stop the steal/states rights, etc., etc) as that makes their viewers come back for more, and the liberal press does the same thing (Orange Man bad/ climate change/womens rights/anti-vax nutjobs, etc., etc). Notice a pattern here?

Remember the joke:
Q: "How do you know when the salesman is lying?"

A: "His lips are moving."

Quote from: TSmcam on July 14, 2022, 07:13 PMYou know, I always dug California. I grew up in my early teens racing BMX, and before that, a bit of skateboarding. The pictures from the magazines, reading about cool looking places with palm trees, beaches, Vans shoes etc etc, was the stuff of legends to us.

I have to admit, the first time I arrived there (to attend a VUE, and do some CGTech training), I wasn't disappointed. When I took my family there in 2018, they weren't disappointed either. Hollywood was as we imagined. Not my scene. So was Disneyland (I enjoyed that, expensive as it was). We liked San Diego, and we liked San Clemente. Newport Beach/Balboa was great.

We do need to get back. There is a probably an 85% chance we will be back there next year. Probably do a bit more of a trek further (Malibu, Northern California, and even maybe up into Oregon). There is a lot of the states I still want to see.

We definitely have to see and experience more!

Exactly, The tourist view is wonderful, going to the right places at the right time .You can't miss.

Being raised there. Nah.

STRICT regulation and Governmental Control.

Fish with the wrong worm in the wrong river $$$ (Sarcasm) But true.

Living there you are under the thumb.

They understand that Tourism is Money. and are adept at understanding your needs.

Hah, yep, the same applies down here. 200%.

I totally agree about the tourist view. It is a great place to visit. Which is why we'll more than likely be back for a vacation next year :)

So California knows it's running scared and they're unconstitutional gun laws are going to fall.
So they need to violate other amendments in order to continue violating the second.
