For those of you who use TurboTax, just a friendly reminder that it won't install on Win7. I found out the hard way. Yeah, I know, it lists the system requirements on the box, but it never even occurred to me.

Now I've got to make it look like I didn't open it so I can return it. At this point, I don't know how I'm going to do my taxes this year.

I'm pretty sure that you can use turbotax online.

Well, Win8 sucked...and so does 10.  :spank:  So just like the fact that I don't buy a new cell phone every fkn time the new one comes out, I don't buy the latest version of Winblows just because. That's who.  :harhar:

I understand that to be true as well. I'm of the understanding that everything is stored in the cloud when you do that. That doesn't sound too appealing to me. Then again, there's no telling who has access to my info when I e-file with TT. But, so far, so good! As of now, I'll keep looking.

I went the TT online option this year.
I'm not sure what gets stored when you electronically file through their service, which I've done for years.

Should say,  taxes are done but can't file yet

Did you do your entire online return in one sitting? It's the saving of my return online until I'm finished and ready to e-file that concerns me. I've e-filed for many years when running TT locally. That never bothered me.

Yeah, did it all in about 20 minutes this year....it saved when I exited.

Still waiting on a form approval so I couldn't complete.

I see. It usually takes me about a week from start to finish, pecking away at it in my spare time after work. Somewhere along the line, I usually have to dig up some info here and there.

This year mine were easy...one W2, one 1099 and wife's disability.

Been a long time since mine were that straight forward

TT online remembers everything. I've been using it for years. No problems.

Me too.
It's nice because most of your info is already there, and if your employer links your W2, you don't even need to type in your current numbers.

You pay for the online version when you file, so it's not much different than picking up the software on a disc at WalMart, except that there are no installation issues to deal with.  You only use it once for each tax year anyway, so it always made sense to me to just pay for the online version every year.  Your info is out there if you e-file anyway, so I don't worry about it too much.  Intuit has a good reputation for data security.  That doesn't mean they can't be compromised, but so far they have been relatively secure.

I don't have any computers running Windows 7. The last one was gone several years ago.

Once it wouldnt drive my MX Master mouse, 3D Connexion device, Renishaw Ball-Bar, and a few other external peripherals anymore, that ship sailed.

Windows 10 sucks, but I've learned to embrace the suck and I am comfortable being uncomfortable, so... 10 it is.

I usually buy Turbo tax and install it on my computer but I think I might be able to use the free edition this year.

My wife didn't work in 2020 so I only have 1 W2 form. No mortgage or tax deductible loans so I believe I might be able to use the simplest form there is.

Is there an upper limit to income for this form? Any other hidden restrictions?
