Our company has decided that there will be no scheduled trips to IMTS this year due to Covid and Chicago violence. I was called in to get my opinion and I stated that without being able to carry I don't see myself ever going back to that shithole town.

Not going either to expensive to think about going.

We are going as part of the MPMA (MN precision MFG Assoc) group. It's a quick trip, fly in early AM Tue, leave Wed late afternoon.

As far as safety concerns, Almost every single week of every year there is a conference of some sorts at Chicago McCormick center. If they started losing money because of safety issues I'm sure they would step up security/police presence. As long as you don't venture too far away after hours the risk should be minimal.

when you look at a homicide map of Chicago, it looks like a Pot-Shot target at a meat shoot.

Spent the night a couple weekends ago. Stayed the Westin on Michigan. Went to Wrigley for a concert. Got tipsy in Wrigleyville. Walked up and down Michigan Ave.

I tell ya, I'm lucky to be alive.

I'll be there. Hoping for a S/M-F trip.

I've got lot of stuff I need to look at. A trip to IM TS would save me from doing HUNDREDS of hours of online research.

As far as danger goes, keep to the main touristy areas and you're in.no more danger then you would be in any other major metropolitan area.

I know a LOT of guys that conceal carry and do not have a Permit. Their mantra is pretty much "if somebody sees it, I'm doing it wrong." It's all about risk mitigation.

The problem with concealed carry in Illinois is if you do need and use it you may be stuck there for many unpleasant years.

The alternative could be worse

The saying "... better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6..." is apropos here...

For an individual, yes. for the family, no.

Each individual needs to assess their situation and decide accordingly.

I'll be at IMTS Monday through Thursday regardless of Shitcago's crime stats. Getting out of bed and in the shower every morning is statistically more dangerous.

We got an Airbnb for the show Sunday to Saturday. Then hotels for setup/teardown. Hoping to fly home  once and not stay for 2 weeks.

We did that the year Hotel Workers were on strike. It sucked sweaty dog balls. Added about 1 and a half  hours to our day because we still needed to do show stuff at night. Hopefully it won't be tough for you.
