QuoteCanada socializes healthcare.
Canada legalizes euthanasia.
The Canadian government-controlled health care establishment realizes, "Hey, wait a minute, it's cheaper if these people die, let's pressure them into it."
"Euthanasia" is now Canada's sixth-leading cause of death.
At no point does it seem to have occurred to anyone that giving the government strong financial incentive to want you dead was a bad idea.

The law only allows terminally ill patients to choose to be euthanized. I would guess that a lot of people are choosing it because they are suffering greatly and not because the gov is suggesting it.

The links in my post lead to a long Twitter thread which suggests otherwise

Yeah and the harder it is to get the treatment that the populace paid for and the resultant increased suffering, it's a win/win for the establishment. They only really want healthy payers.

Your link doesn't actually post any data or studies, just a few stories that may or may not be accurate.

I'm not saying that I don't believe that a socialist gov would push death to save money, I fully believe they would. I just don't believe everything I read on internet news sights without a little verification of some kind.

excerpt from the washington post

It actually sounds kinda disturbing.  I don't have an issue with someone suffering wanting assisted end of life.  I don't think it's ethical to be coerced in to it.

QuoteMany Canadians support euthanasia and the advocacy group Dying With Dignity says the procedure is "driven by compassion, an end to suffering and discrimination and desire for personal autonomy." But human rights advocates say the country's regulations lack necessary safeguards, devalue the lives of disabled people and are prompting doctors and health workers to suggest the procedure to those who might not otherwise consider it.

Equally troubling, advocates say, are instances in which people have sought to be killed because they weren't getting adequate government support to live.

Canada is set to expand euthanasia access next year, but these advocates say the system warrants further scrutiny now.

Euthanasia "cannot be a default for Canada's failure to fulfill its human rights obligations," said Marie-Claude Landry, the head of its Human Rights Commission.

Landry said she shares the "grave concern" voiced last year by three U.N. human rights experts, who wrote that Canada's euthanasia law appeared to violate the agency's Universal Declaration of Human Rights. They said the law had a "discriminatory impact" on disabled people and was inconsistent with Canada's obligations to uphold international human rights standards.

When considering issues of magnitude, and we SHOULD believe life and death fall into that category. It is imperative that we truly consider the depravity of man and what he is not only capable of doing, but moreso, what he in incentivized to do.

Yeah, I fully understand that is a dark place to go, but reality is often far more grim than that unfortunately.

... and @YoDoug you know damn well GOVERNMENTS have killed hundreds of millions of their own people for less incentive. Those stories are not onl'y accurate, the reality is there are worse stories that are yet untold.

Again, I'm not saying I don't believe it. It is just not very much data to form an opinion. We don't know if it is isolated to certain hospitals, cities, hospital admin, doctors, or if goes higher up in government. Based on the info available I would not object to a bigger investigation.

My opinion as I get older is to believe the absolute worst about my government, because... they've earned it.

I can see where, when euthanasia becomes more common and wide spread, that people would feel pressured upon themselves not to be a burden on their loved ones, who are taking care of them. Or possibly, entitled younger generations would apply pressure to elderly to euthanize. It's a mistake.

My wife worked for a company called Comfort Keepers for a few years. She tended to some elderly people with the intent that if they could have some basic things done for them they would not have to go into a nursing home. Three men in particular really had an impact on her. One was a WW11 vet. A proud man who had to be bathed regularly. It was hard for him to be taken care of like that. But he told her stories of his youth that she would repeat to me in the evenings and it helped both of us to be grateful for what we have. Another man, was a widower who dearly missed his wife. He talked about regrets that he had, and those things he talked about made our marriage better, I think. And a 3rd man was a Catholic Deacon. He talked a lot about his faith and his beliefs in the after-life, that caused both of us to reflect on, not only our own mortality, but how we treat people in the here and now.

I really believe that there is real value in every single stage of life, from conception to natural death. I know my own parents blessed me very much when they were dying and I was tending to their needs while they were on hospice. it was a tough time, and stressful, but I wouldn't trade that time for anything.
