Just for fun - How old were you when you started programming CNC machines?

We all have some fascinating stories. 

I started dipping my toe in to programming when I was about 20. I was more in to the computer aspect of things than I was interesting in programming CNC's but they more or less meshed together.

My story is less than interesting, I went to a trade school that offered a Mastercam course when i turned 17, my high school recommended it to me, I still have the course books for x2 mill & lathe

I don't find that unremarkable at all.  The newer generations start a bit earlier but most don't have the ambition that they did back in the day. You've thrown caution to the wind to start working for yourself so..

I was programming Computers at Age 11 in 1982. I then programmed my first CNC Mill program for a company while in High School in 1989 I was 17 years old and that was 33 years ago. I programmed in Tek-Soft, Gibbs and SmartCam at different times from 1900 to 2000. I worked on my first Mazak with Conversational Programming in 1992. I got into Mastercam in 2000.

Well....It was the easiest way to get you out of high school.

And their hair.

I bet the rest of the kids were steered toward Government.

Started working in family friends shops around 11. Probably around 18 when I started programming with Mastercam

Just a little fun fact -  I've been at this shop for almost 10 years longer than anyone else including the current owner.   

The first time I saw the current owner he was 14 and I was 25.

The older sister usually farted more. The younger one had a swallowing fixation and gagged loudly.

I was a 137.

In dog years I'm dead.

I was 29. Boeing started an NC Programming class. I didn't know what it was, just that it was off the shoo floor.

I got my hands on my first CNC at age 30 - 1990

After being retired now for about 2 months, I really don't miss the work.
