So... We were planning to head back to Europe next year (Spain, Portugal, France etc), but according to most, the cost of getting there, accommodation etc, means that we are considering heading back to the USA.

Then we got thinking about the Bahamas or Caribbean. And then thought, well, maybe a cruise in either of those regions.

If anyone here has been to either or both, I would be interested in feedback. We're thinking maybe something like the Bahamas/Caribbean, then maybe the Carolinas and then pass back through SoCal for a bit.

Just stinkin' thinkin' about things at the moment :)

I can't afford to travel to the Ocean and I live on the coast.   :D

Sounds like fun.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Whereabouts are you? Washington State isn't it? You're pretty close to the Pacific Ocean :)

I don't know a whole lot about the Bahamas etc. We could always skip that and see more of the USA. There certainly is a lot to see there.

I've heard foreign travel is good now because of the strength of the dollar. Getting there won't be cheap though.

For Mexico I usually use Orbitz and look for both flights and hotel. You can find some very reasonable rates if your patient.

Cozumel is my personal favorite. Others like Playa del Carmen, cancun, Isla Mujeres, lots of other places.

Haven't been to the Bahamas, but I have been to the USVI.  St. Thomas and too a short ferry ride to St. John.
Both are amazing. I would look into renting a house for a week in St. John if you can swing it.
The only downside is that it's freakin hot at the equator! lol.

Yes, it looks hot LOL.

We did a bit more research, and spoke to a travel agent. It turns out Western Europe is on the cards. Looks like it might be Spain, Portugal, France and little side trip to Iceland (I have always wanted to go to Iceland). France would allow me to tick off another bucket list, that being a visit to Normandy to do D-Day stuff.

Early days yet, and it may pan out that the USA/Caribbean/Bahamas might still be the end choice.

Definitely on my go to list as well. I think we'll end up doing a UK trip and combine with Germany/Austria/Switzerland or Denmark/Norway/Sweden.

Just not enough time to do the whole of Europe and Scandanavia :)

There is so much to see here that international travel is pretty low on my list. In 2019 for our 35th anniversary we did 2 weeks in Northern California. Yosemite, Tahoe and Crescent city. Drove 2,300 miles. We could have doubled to tripled our time there and still not seen everything there. And that's just Northern California. So much to see here. If we go overseas I would love to do like Norway and stuff to see the fjords. Maybe the Swiss Alps. Although we are not huge outdoors people we do prefer nature over people.

If anyone is thinking going to Norway now is a good time  - I was there for just a day about 10 years ago and the Kroner was worth twice what it is is right now in USDl. I was walking around and looked at a pack of gum, it was 75 krone so I thought "okay that's about $2.5 at the worst" so I based everything I did that day on a $7 pack of gum.   Bought a couple $18 beers, had some $15 pastries... When I got my credit card statement, I just had to laugh.
And outdoorsy trip there now would be amazing.

As I mentioned earlier the dollar is strong right now. Once you get there you can find very good values.

Might want to avoid cruises too - if there's some new covid variant you could be spending a lot of time getting to know your shipmates..
