I just joined this forum yesterday. I was sent here by JParis's eMastercam signature, probably like many others on this forum! Once I had signed up and activated my account, I was surprised to see that I couldn't view any profiles or even a member list for networking purposes.

Does this forum have a probationary period? If so, what do people think about having a README for new members?

I would personally find it helpful to have introductory information consolidated or linked to in location. Not only could this be a good place to link answers to common questions about MC, or even this forum, but it could be another great place to show off our stoic forum guidelines!

Yes, there is a probationary period. The "probation" is basically making two approved posts. This is more of a spam preventative measure than anything else.

There is no such a thing on here.  What do you mean by "power user".

I shouldn't have limited that question to just "power users". There is a great reference pdf folder on the server at the shop I work at. It could be useful to have a directory topic on here that functions in a similar way. The directory topic could contain links to other topics that contain good and concise base knowledge. This could provide a good reason for people to transition to this forum, as well as help elevate the level of questions asked here.

Maybe I am over analyzing it but from the sounds of it, that would be something that would be, perhaps more formalized?

The people that take the time to help, many do it to pay back help they recieved. It sounds like it would take some kind of financial support to compensate someone for their their time...I'm not sure that's really where any of use..

If you look at IHS, they're a Reseller, they are in business..we're all just kind of here...

How many people bothered to read the community guidelines on Emastercam? All the Post requests and other things over there to tell people not to be an arse still got and get missed. This is an outlet for allowing those of us to have a place to talk about other things. Mastercam gets discussed, but not like over there. I know a lot of users who know Mastercam much better than I do, but I have spent the last 18 years getting to know them over there. Maybe in 18 years we will know who are the power users over here. For now we do our best get our jobs done to keep a roof over our head and feed our families.

Thank Neuorsis and Byte for this place. It is their brain child.  :unworthy:  :unworthy:
