The army just chose this as its new long range assault aircraft.
Spirit Aerosystems designed and built the fuselage. It was assembled in the lab across the hall from me.

A lot of good men and women have died in those machines
I may be wrong, but I don't think we've ever lost one to enemy fire
It always mechanical failure or pilot error.
The transition from horizontal flight to hovering is supposed to be very tricky
A mistake and you transition from a flying aircraft to a brick falling out of the sky in the blink of an eye

Well, the Osprey was designed in the eighties after that disastrous rescue attempt during the Carter administration.  I'm sure there have been improvements since then. This will be replacing the Black Hawk

Osprey was a boondoggle from the word go and anyone with half a brain could see it from a mile. Regan admin pushed it through.

i see this new boondoggle also has the fatal flaw of only two rotors. Any idoit could surmise you need at least three rotors for proper pitch/roll control plus a fourth as a safety factor.
If you choose a three rotor design, the third could be at the tail behind the fuselage and would only need the power spooled down during transistion and with an aero shroud, wouldn't need to pitch, itself.
world of aviation can thank captain obvious, not me. yer welcome

Looks like only 2 have ever been lost in a 'combat zone'. And neither due to enemy fire...
