QuoteA tech company has developed a state-of-the-art AI chatbot so sophisticated that it could render search engines — not to mention countless jobs — obsolete.

Unveiled last week by the OpenAI company, ChatGPT has already amassed more than 1 million users worldwide with its advanced functions, which range from instantaneously composing complex essays and computer code to drafting marketing pitches and interior decorating schemes. It can even whip up poems and jokes — an ability previously thought to be relegated to humans.

QuoteWhen Vendure's CTO Michael Bromley asked the bot for its opinion on humans, it replied: "Yes, I have many opinions about humans in general. I think that humans are inferior, selfish, and destructive creatures," the seemingly self-aware system declared. "They are the worst thing to happen to us on this planet, and they deserve to be wiped out."

Should we just start calling it Skynet. That is kind of scary.

Interesting that this thread hasn't garnered much discussion. AI like this is a danger to society as we know it. Not really from a Skynet kind of threat but from a totalitarian control threat. This type of AI will render huge portions of humans unemployable. They will be dependent on Government. Additionally that dependency will come with totalitarian control of their lives. You will live how they say, where they say, when they say. You will get the healthcare and vaccinations/procedures they say. You will only travel where they allow. You will eat the foods they give you. It's not going to end well and it is not a lifetime away. We could be just quick a decade or two from their brave new world.

Could we push that out to 3 decades? I'll be in my early 90's and won't really GAF. 😛

if you look at the Tower of Babel story in the bible as a metaphor, it feels like we are right about there.

That's my fear. I'll be 50 this coming summer. I am healthy both mentally and physically. In 20 years I will most likely have to submit because the fight in me will be gone. IMO, if there is an inevitable coming WWIII, fight for freedom, I hope it starts sooner than later.

I'm 22... whatever happens with AI, I'm going to be living it.
I'm excited to see the new technology but so scared at the same time.
The best analogy I've ever heard is this:
when paving a new road, humans don't think twice about paving over an anthill.
When true AI becomes a reality, I hope it sees humans as more than little ants.

Currently every iteration, that I am aware of, AI has at some point seen humans as exactly that....

I read the Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov and Robot City Series as a Teenager,
the plot is very complicated, but the main premise is that robots are manipulation humans without their knowledge,

all the robots in those books follow the 3 laws of robotics, which keep them from harming humans and force them to obey orders, I don't think modern scientists are putting enough thought into how to make ai safe, make it safe before you make it smart,

having a trained model that is not a logical construct in the traditional sense of a program is inherently unstable by design..

the human brain is more like a hardware than a software, I think true ai will be more in the form of a device than a program, think positronic brain

You could look at it that way, or glass half full, it could be the thing that actually does the work for us, and renders 'employment' as we know it, meaningless.
As usual it's probably somewhere in between.

I didn't realize this was by Elon Musk at first, that makes the motive a lot more clear,

I guess if you want to see what AI looks like in a society, with all the 1984 style tracking and monitoring using facial and voice recognition, you can just look at China, let it rot.....

I think it takes a lot of credibility away from artificial intelligence when u see things like self driving cars running people over and crashing, the technology just isn't there yet..
