I trust no news source.

And absolutely do not trust any Government experts.

A very convenient time for an announcement.

As our current administration has declared war on fossil fuels.

I just mentioned this breakthrough in the EV car thread today. This is a big step but I do wonder though how scalable it is. They used almost 200 high powered lasers to contain the fusion reaction for only a little over a megajoule of energy.

Sorry but that doesn't really count. :)

Yea but we have lots of oil and coal now ,since we have free energy.

we can just power the lasers with that.

FREE!! Free!! FREE!! (MEMBER THAT COMMERCIAL?)

I'm Calling my lectric company now and telling them to FO!!! >:(

It doesn't really work as a model, it requires all these rare resources (tridium?), and they lose power doing it,
if they can make it work with hydrogen, its game on

They keep reporting a slight improvement in efficiency about once a year.  This is just one more incremental step.

It should be commercially available just in time for our robot overlords to use.

I think the big I want to see is, can this be reproduced in other labs? That really it the tell on if there really "is" a breakthrough.

Not only is triggering a reaction needing to be done but then it needs to be continous...though before you can do that, you really have to answer the, "How do we efficiently and reliaibly, contain it."

Seems to me that containment is the bigger question as that and the source of the atoms to create and maintain the reaction will draw the most power.
