Quote from: Incogneeto on December 23, 2022, 03:07 PMIt's typical . we saw material in 30 degree temps and pass them on they hit the lathes and its like loading Icicles.
and then we have a .0004 tolerance Pppfffft.

If they hit a 68 Degree Q.C. shop we are fooked.

In the summer we run at close to 100 degrees... SSDD!!!
The WORST part about that... the machine gets the blame for out of tolerance parts.

Lately I've been reminding customers that "thermal comp" only comps the machine. Parts not included.

We have one customer that makes parts with tolerances in the 5μm range. They maintain 68° coolant temp. Bring the material in for a 5min soak. Rough and semi finish. 5min part soak, probe for size and location then finish. They hold those tolerances unattended in a non climate controlled shop with 50° temp swings.

How do they maintain the coolant temp? Chiller and Warmer? Very clever solution!
Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

Safety! is no Accident!

Yes, several companies make coolant temperature management solutions. They will warm or cool depending on the need.

Big challenges require creative solutions.

Soooo ..Whats with the rolling Blackouts??

Tennessee , Texas and North Carolina??

I thought it might take a little longer for Biden to completely fuck the energy Grid.

But apparently there is one thing he is very good at. :o

they've been decommissioning coal and natural gas power plants
and replacing then with nothing, wind mills or solar power farms
Obviously "nothing" generates no power

Wind mills don't work if the wind isn't blowing
In winter storms they must feather the blades as they will be destroyed by ice build up
Once the weather clears up, the blades must be deiced before they can go back to work

Solar power doesn't work at night or when covered with snow and the panels
must be cleared of snow and ice once the storms are over.

and in North Carolina and Oregon someone is sabotaging transformer stations.
At this time no one has been caught and their motive is unknown.
I'm sure we will discover their motives are fueled by hallucinogenic unicorn farts
or some other green energy fever dream.

When the weather is terrible, demand is highest and unicorn farts can't keep the lights on
and people are dying.

Here is my neighbors house, they spent over $50k on new solar panels this fall. Normally I can see most of the panels. Sure seems like they're paying for themselves today.

Well, we made it thru the deep freeze without our pool pump exploding so that's nice.  Alabamaians aren't built for 7 degrees.  Started snowing here about 3 today and now there's tons of stranded cars on the roads.

Californians brace for deadly cold front

QuoteCALIFORNIA - The rest of the nation may be battling bitter cold, but they have no idea what the poor people in California are about to face: weather in the mid-50s, with a chance of something strange called "rain."

Across Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Inland Empire, Californians swarmed local stores looking to buy jackets, scarves, earmuffs, and mittens, hoping to survive the imminent mild weather.

"This polar vortex could be the worst meteorological disaster to hit the state in decades," said one Fox 11 news anchor gravely as a special WEATHER DISASTER WATCH 2019 warning graphic flashed on the screen. "Stay indoors, try not to talk too much. Don't risk it out in the deadly cold."

"You might even have to put on shoes," he added. "May God help us all."

While temps are expected to drop to the unprecedented low 50s, weathermen confirmed that wind chill could put that up in the high 40s, at which point most Californians are expected to simply keel over and die. The rest of the nation seemed to be OK with this.

Biden weathers the storm in St Croix

QuoteThe 80-year-old commander in chief will bask in the Caribbean sun near an in-ground pool at a three-bedroom beachfront villa with sweeping views on the largest of the US Virgin Islands.

Meanwhile, travel chaos, widespread power outages and rising deaths caused by single-digit weather continue across the Midwest and East Coast, but especially in Western New York, where at least 32 people died in Buffalo's Erie County amid more than 4 feet of snow.

It's unclear who owns the vacation property or whether Biden will be paying for his stay, though he has a long record of staying for free at the houses of wealthy Democratic donors.

The homeowner declined to identify themselves or disclose whether Biden will pay when contacted through the real estate company that handles leasing.

Hopefully the place doesn't have any stairs or bicycles. Probably has a few young child servants though, just for the big guy.

I have very little pity for people that do not heed weather warnings and get stuck in it. I DO feel pity for the family members left behind to deal with that stupidity however.

If you're not prepared to be your own first responder, you probably shouldn't be out in it.
