ICAM does posts and CAV
GCTECH does CAV

They are both owned by Sandvik and offer similar products (CAV)
I wonder how that works now
and
I wonder if they will start selling
Mastercam/ICAM bundles
or Mastercam/Vericut bundles

It's a strange new world for our profession

ICAM/CGTECH special offers

Here's Johnny!

You have to think that Mastercam is going to have a CAV portion sooner or later. Likely an upgrade from the entry level (without it).

What's CAV?
Collision avoidance verification?

I always thought it stood for Computer Aided Verification,
but I wouldn't bet money on it

Perhaps back then, the future buy-out was being discussed?

Yeah, that talk has been around for well, years. (Just like robust Mill/Turn and Multi Channel Capability....) But, well... internal g-code verification is really like having your machinist take the part to inspection and then run the first part inspection himself... :)

TopSolid now has internal G-code simulation, and it looks pretty good. But, I personally prefer a standalone verification app.

For myself, I would "prefer" external verification....the single biggest reason, companies have a vested interest in getting it right.

I am NOT a fan of this CAV consolidation.

That is interesting to hear. I know of a company using it, and they found it wasn't too bad. I've never used it, as I had moved on from NX before it was introduced.

Just saw this article today. It's an add-in, but run in Mcam for G code verification.

and I wonder if that signals where ModuleWorks is going to end up...that siad, I'm not impressed with the intergartion with ModuleWorks and suspect this will just be more of the same essentially

"We do not offer G-code simulation in the classic definition,"

Says everything right there....it is basically useless then...just another simulation

I didn't know Mastercam's Simulator could simulate code, found out talking to Postability.
I have been using Postability's UMC-750 Package with great success.
The Post and Simulator are linked, it runs the post in the background and then simulates that code.

Yes but you have to license the module for it and have a kinematic aware post from Postability or In-House.

Out of curiosity, is anyone here using or has used, Cimcos Machine Simulation?

It is a reasonably priced G-code machine simulator.

I didn't know that they actually had it up and running. Do they have many machines in their library?

I believe they have quite a few machines now, though I haven't seen them. To be honest, Cimco haven't really been too forthcoming with it, at least to me. I did have a license for it quite a while ago, but it was slow and buggy. I believe they have improved it since then.
