Here's an article from this morning on the subject of the money making deception.

Put the crack pipe down @mkd that is just an absurd line of thinking.

Wind and solar are 100% hands down theeeeeee most unreliable energy sources in existence. There is literally not enough land mass to to create "enough" energy to meet the ever increasing demands of more and more devises, vehicles, etc... Is there a place for them? Sure. Some regions on the planet can benefit. But the suck thing is that THEEEEEEE most efficient, the most green, the most reliable energy technology cannot even be spoken of; #NuclearEnergy Nothing beats nuclear for power generation. NOTHING!

As soon as soon as ALL the diesel generators on the planet go offline, I will concede you are right and I am wrong. Just know I will not be holding my breath for Diesel GenSets to go offline... in my grandkids' lifetime.

I'm not winning any arguments, fun postulating.
A large corner of Nevada, covered in solar could power the nation, right??

I have no clue but my gut tells me that it couldn't power Vegas.

People Don't realize the revolution underway. First time in history people will be able to power their own vehicles delivered from the Great fireball in the suky for free once your solar panels are paid off. That's the ultimate FU.
Once enough large chunks of a lithium where there, people don't just throw them away with their cell phones, it'll be self-sustaining.
Once enough wind and solar are installed, power utilities monopoly goes away. Free internet and EV charging will be had at Starbucks.

Wow, you're their target audience. The people who can be conditioned quickly without questioning them.

Back when we were paying for long distance, were you buying a new $800 phone every 2-3 years?

The problem with renewables is not just macro power, or total power output, it is instantaneous power. Traditional power from fossil fuels or nuclear can be turned up or down quickly to meet demand. Current power grids have no storage capacity. Renewable power like wind and solar are susceptible to weather and time of day. To make it work large scale is going to require huge power storage capabilities. This is in the works, but it is going to take a while to transition grids.

As a side note, to the lefties that are cheering Tesla's value loss this past year, be prepared to be unhappy. Tesla's power storage division has always been second fiddle to car batteries. It was excess car battery production capacity that was manufacturing the semi-trailer sized storage banks for power grids. Tesla is now ramping up it's own mfg facility just for power storage as well as some new tech that makes it lower cost to mafg. They have a four year backlog of orders. In that same 4 year time period projections have the power storage division eclipsing the car division in revenue and the power storage runs at higher profit margin. Could be a good time to buy Tesla.

Lastly, in response to free power, nothing is free. Someone has to pay for all equipment and the cost to maintain it. Windmills, solar panels, and batteries don't last forever. It will either be private companies just like power companies now, or government which would mean excess taxes to cover typical gov waste and mismanagement.

Here in the People's Republik of Kommiefornia from "concept" to "generation" or "storage"... 10 years minimum. That's if you can get things past the NIMBYs or if there isn't some endangered  Flower Loving Fruit Fly's habitat that you woudl be encroaching on.

That's the thing that NOBDY is acknowleding in this whole shit show... the regulatory hurdles for projects of this magnitude. Even when they really, Really, REALLY want something :cough: High Speed Bullet Train :cough: it's a shit show. This? Orders of magnitude more difficult. And few if any are talking about the nuts and bolts of what "no new ICE cars to be sold after 2030" or whatever the projected year is. But hey.. it sounds good, the sheep are idiots and don't know any better.

The whole no ICE by a certain date is just Dem racketeering and kickbacks to their big corp friends and unions. Transportation only accounts for about 14% of global greenhouse gases and that includes air travel. Forcing the ICE to EV change will barely move the needle. There are other areas that would be better addressing first. Also, the charging cost in greenhouse gases for EV's will just end up in other areas on that chart.

Don't take it from me but maybe have a listen to a billionaire. Even with his nutty ideas on climate change inequality
