Sic Marking Machine

Anybody have any experience or a manual for the handheld dot peening Sic marking machine?
I'm trying to get it to generate serial numbers.
I've figure out how to do the basics by key punching but I'm not even sure if what I want is possible.
There seems to be a key that informs me that my file does not contain any variables but I can't figure out how to insert any, not even sure if that's way to get to what I want.

I emailed the company and am waiting for a response.
I am surprised at how little (none) information I can find about this online.
