We were working along like normal a little while ago when we hear an unfamiliar warbling noise and a deep voice repeating "EVACUATE THE BUILDING" over and over. I gotta say, it was kinda freaky, very ominous. Nothing like the tornado warnings we're used to hearing. (They test them every week.) So, everyone grabs their coats and heads outside where it's a balmy 15 degrees with a stiff Kansas wind. There were a couple of people who left without a coat. By the time they let us back in I was cold clear through my long underwear. It was about 20 minutes of standing around outside. We were very lucky all we had to contend with was cold. I can't imagine doing that in the middle of a blizzard

We don't yet know exactly what happened, but we think it had something to do with 2 large liquid nitrogen tanks used to pressurize the autoclave. That's where the emergency vehicles were gathered. There was an incident a few years ago when a high pressure liquid nitrogen line ruptured, causing quite a bit of damage at one of the Textron facilities.

the weird part about that is that they said it over and over. Our guys are in their cars, 2\3 of the way through "evacuate."  ;D

It's interesting how you get acclimated to the climate you live in. In MN we don't break out the long underwear until it is well below 0. I have a Carhartt insulated zip up hoody that serves as my jacket until it gets down to single digit temps. I remember when I moved here from OK it took a few winters to get used to the cold again.

It was an automated warning. It might have been the fire alarm.

YoDoug,

Very true. I have two grandsons that spent most of their lives in Alaska and recently moved to North Dakota. They play in the water sprinklers when it's in the upper 50s. W

I spent a week in Calgary in February years ago on a contract job
Man I was cold.
Even back then everyone had aftermarket remote starters on their cars

Del.

I wonder how the EV's will do in a Minnesota winter.

You do get used to it. Myself & 2 other guys in the shop don't believe in pants...so shorts it is until I see a minus sign in front of the temperature. Flannel coat or hoodie completes the outfit. Perfectly fine for running errands and such. Though when you are spending more than an hour outside, then its time to break out pants & a hat. I don't mind skiing in single digits or below - you dress for it and are comfortable until the lift ride up, then sitting still gets a little chilly.

I don't mind the occasional leg hair singe from a hot chip...but a thong would expose other areas a bit more sensitive.

I've tried wearing shorts once or twice.
It's not the hot chips that bother me, it's the ones that get inside my boots.

How far away from the building was everyone? Wouldn't those tanks have a pretty large blast radius if they were to blow?
