Medical Insurance deductible - what's the average in our trade?

I know that this is difficult to answer and maybe too personal?

Our insurance keeps getting worse every year, which is *sorta* understandable considering. It's getting to the point that unless you have something catastrophic happen, it's not worth even having insurance.

I think that our deductible rose to $3000 this year, which is seems high according to the US average. I won't bother to mention how much the max out of pocket is right now.

I remember the days of $500 deductibles and $1000 max out of pocket.  What happened to the good ole days?

Nope, you are not wrong. More and more has been shifted onto the subscriber over the last dozen or so years...it was happening before that but it has/had really escalated.

As you age especially, not having insurance is rolling the dice, regardless of how good your health "may" be....

I'm looking at back surgery this year, it'll be $6500 out of pocket first....my wife 2 years ago, her hip replacements, the one in June satisfied the deductible, thankfully as she had the 2nd hip in October, then had all kinds of issues with hip #2.

We have a FSA here and I max it out every year, been medications and appointments, I've not had to leave anything in it to lose.

Ouch.  That's a lot of money spent on medical.  *Most* people wouldn't be able to absorb that every year.  :(

Something is going to have to change at some point or medical bankruptcies are going to be the new norm. Or should I say, more of the new norm than it already is. Health-care is already the leading cause. I wouldn't have thought that it could possibly go down hill from there but here we are.

my wife's life-saving medication is billed around $50k per month and we have a high deducible plan to. I think it's maybe around $6000 out of pocket max. Not sure if that per individual or family. We have a temporary manufacturer coupon, if that's what you call it.
We had two insurances last year, so the bills were pretty much covered. Being disabled, the Job cut her off and disability cut her off as of 2023.
make sure you pay your maintenance in case something happens!! ::)  :o

Ours in $2750 individual and $6500 for family deductible. Out of pockets are $12k/20k for in-network. Out of network goes up about 50%. Add in the $8K in in premiums and medical is now the single biggest expense we have, including our house.

Obamacare was designed to break the middleclass with the hopes that it will push us into single payer. It is working as designed.

My wife is scheduled to have surgery at the Cleveland clinic in two weeks. The Cleveland clinic financial department has been working with our insurance to get preapproval and to our surprise they say it will be in network.

Was there a spike in health care premiums after obamacare?  According to KFF the individual premium increase has been pretty consistent since the 90's. Assuming I am reading the chart right?

I assumed that the combination of implementing the ACA and then the Republicans doing everything they could to destroy it would have caused a massive spike but I don't see that in the chart?

Did Obummercare save $2500 and NOT allow illegal aliens to get coverage, as the oracle so eloquently promised?

I guess when you don't have a good argument ad hominem (or strawman) works?

Del.

With my Medicare and a supplement I bought I have a total of $226 out of pocket per year for $300 a month. I can go to any doctor or hospitals. I don't understand why we don't use this model. I also have zero copay.
