I don't know how many of you guys have to deal with stuff like this or how often.  :D

We have a guy running a job that was just about as simple as it gets.

There is a slot and a hole that have to be put in the end of a plate about 17" apart.  The only difficult thing is the tolerance.

We have a setup plate and we told him to just shift his fixture offset to put as many holes and slots in the end of this plate needed to get the correct size. He managed to hit the size it two holes which  :cheer:

As he's walking out of QC, the QA manager tells him, "make sure you shift your fixture offset back to its original location or you'll scrap the good part".

Well guess what he did?   Some how, between QA and his machine, he forgot to shift the offset back and ran the part.

What in the F.  lol.

The owner is pissed but I told him to get rid of the guy two weeks ago.

He walks around talking on a bluetooth headset all day when he's supposed to be working.  He has a bad attitude so you can't offer him assistance on anything.

He was obviously distracted. Talking on the phone again I suspect.

Hard to feel sorry for a boss that wont deal with the turds.

This is my take on employees:

If you have a "job" you come in at 8 and leave at 4 and do nothing to learn or better yourself. You couldn't careless if the place burned down overnight.

If you have a "career" you are constantly learning and building your career. You are vested in your position and want to continually improve your skills/ knowledge.

You want "career" minded people. I found since COVID most people are putting less than the min effort into their jobs, they got use to taking it easy....work from home...send an email and they never respond!!!

100% agree.

This same guy made a tool change over a tall fixture yesterday *after* knowing that the fixture was too tall for the tool change to clear.  He moved positions to change to his edge finder. Then without moving again, changed to the first tool in the program.

The tool changer is still broken on the machine.

lol.  Not a good week for this guy.

So instead of a scrap piece of material you get to replace a crashed probe, cause they will find a away to do that as well.

Must be the owners fault for not buying the machine with a probe on it.

First thing is to make it idiot proof...then the harder thing is to make it asshole proof!!! I remember this from making tooling for assembly lines....!!!

A good programmer does all they can to minimize those "errors"  :P

There is no such thing as idiot proof.
When you think you've managed to make something idiot proof,
they'll just hire a cheaper, better idiot.

When I design production tooling I always keep the old Samsonite suitcase commercial in mind.
The one with the gorilla trying to destroy the Samsonite suitcase.

That's just BRUTAL. I can't remember the last machine I touched without a probe...

We have *one* machine with a probe and that is our horizontal.

In the new (I say new, but it's been 10 years) owners defense, most of these machines were purchased by his Dad and that guy was the king of buying anything he could get a deal on and as cheap as possible. He did purchase good machines, they were usually just stripped down. The one exception was the Horizontal and that machine pretty much runs itself.
