Are you forced to use a machine for simulation in 2024 now?

When they changed the functionality to consolidate, I notice that it also removed some of the convenience options as well. In 2024 I can't get a lot of our simpler files to simulate because the machine definition is set to "use machine definition". I have it set that way because we don't need machine simulation for this stuff.  When I go to run the simulator it errors out with "Cannot load the machine configuration files. Please check the configuration for ."  It also seems to have removed the ability to create stock on the fly by picking stock corners.

This is all pretty much going to junk trying to use 2024 for me.  We have quite a few part files where toolling assemblies are all programmed in the same file so being able to do this on the fly is important.

I was going to ask on the official forum but haven't been able to get in consistently all morning.

gcode

try using the stock override feature

I tried that but it still gives the error in simulation and it doesn't allow me to pick stock corners (box).

I have about 8 simple parts that are a part of the same assembly all programmed in the same part file machine definition. In 2023 I can just create stock on the fly to simulate for each part so I'm not having to go through the entire work flow as if I'm programming a single/new part.

Just in the messing around I've done this morning, it's taking way longer to accomplish the same things.

I do see one nice thing. I don't have to set up the stock if I create a stock model for each part.  I can just select the stock model along with the operations I want to simulate and it automatically uses that stock model as the stock.

I may just have to change my work flow a little and start creating stock models for everything.  Not great, but it seems to do the trick.

Still not sure why they would remove the ability to "use machine definition" as the machine when no machine is needed.

There are a few things they've removed, forced upon us or just plain won't fix/change that irritate me.

Yea, they've totally screwed my workflow.  lol. Especially on jobs that I just want to throw some stuff together and just start pumping out programs. I can see now that in 2024 it's going to add quite a bit of time to accomplish the same things all because "training was too difficult".

They've removed all of this functionality for some reason.

This is how I had ours set up to also. It does not work anymore. I changed all of ours to use the "5AxHeadHead" external machine & now all is good. Nice thing about that external machine is it doesn't load a useless preview of a machine that may (but most likely does not) look like your machine.

So Head/Head not Table/Table?

I downloaded 2024... waiting for CAMplete's plug-in to be released so I can make the jump and install it. It's the perfect time for me to completely trash my work flow.

:coffee:

Brace yourselves for undocumented features.

It is sad when the very first file you open in a new version you find a feature that drives the holder through a part in verify. Not bothering with this version till the first "update".
Love how they name it "update". Update implies new features. Update for CNC Software means some shit got fixed in the new version that wasn't broke in the old version.

It looks like they've had some regressions in 'merge geometry'.

When you select active level, it still creates and names all of the levels from the merged file. At least the geometry lands in the active level but there is a bunch of cleanup to do after.

There are some other bugs as well. After merging a couple of vises, I tried to merge tooling from another file and it wouldn't bring the geometry it.  After you accept everything the geometry just disappears.  I had to close the part file and re-open to merge from another file.

This is going to be fun.
