Fleemastercam culture

Just wondering what you guys (mostly Neurosis since he's footing the bill right now) think about the culture here at fleeMastercam.com.

For example the post below. I'm a blue collar guy so I've no problem with primitive people using coarse language. It's pretty well known that I sometimes reply in kind when I get tired of ignoring it.

But what do you think about it? Is it alright? Is it not alright? Should it be confined to the outhouse area?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Personally, the back and forth doesn't bother me.  I was around back in the usenet days on alt.machine.cnc where there was no moderation what so ever.  It was a complete shit show of insults and personal attacks with some machining mixed in.

The thing that I don't care for, is that there are several people who I really enjoy reading their posts, who don't want to come here because of the "culture" or what ever we want to call it. There will probably be a point where some others will decide not to stick around. I hate to see that happen.

In my opinion, there's no place for name calling or personal attacks.  We're all adults here (I assume), act like it.

I'm not opposed to that.  

I've been looking in to the ability to restrict foul language per forum.  I don't think it's possible. I'll keep digging.

You can however, allow people to bypass the setting if they don't want it restricted.  

The blatant insults should probably be squashed before there are only 10 of us left here posting.

This is why I started this thread. Let's talk about it and decide what is acceptable. Then apply it EVENLY.

I can live with whatever is decided as long as it's applied evenly and without bias, at least as much as humanly possible.

I say we stick with a similar culture to what we had at the E. But with a few dirty words and bikini pictures added in. We had a good thing going before the shutdown, why ruin it? It is obvious some need a little bit of moderation to keep a some civility.

That was supposed to be the plan.  Going in there was some optimism that people would self moderate. It was pretty mellow for the first week or so.
