Quote from: BrianP. on March 06, 2023, 08:48 AMAt this point no way to tell. All I can do is go from my personal experience. Before the government got involved here it was much more affordable. Whether that would have continued IDK.

Well, the ACA was an attempt to provide people without health care with insurance.

The costs of health care have been skyrocketing for decades, long before the ACA was passed.

QuoteBut I will say I don't mind spending money on our health. Is it expensive? Yeah kinda. But look at what people spend for cell phones, cars, vacations etc.. etc... No problem spending thousands to tens of thousands on irrelevant things. Having been sick probably 50 percent of the time for the last 3+ years I'll tell you feeling good beats the hell out of a cruise or trip to Disney World.

I've no doubt about that. Nothing's fun when you're feeling crappy all the time.

But you did your own research and made a decision based on that research instead of doing what .gov told you... so, you're fringe.

Got that right Larry. Been out 4 days this week. Today I feel good but still took it off. Every once in a while I stretch time off to an extra day when I start feeling better. I call it feeling like a normal person. We are adjusting some meds and trying to figure out why I get nauseous and exhausted. The nausea is the worst. You just want to curl up and hide from the world.

~140/wk for an HMO. No dental, no vision. Deductibles are 2500 person/5000 family. Pretty sure it's 80/20 after that (don't have it in front of me). Max out of pocket is $7350/14,700.

Was down to 5mgs on Prednisone. We tested my adrenal glands and they are under performing. ( Shut up yous guy's 😛). Went back up to 10mgs and I was fine for a few days then down and out again. We just adjusted my Rinvoq down to 15 mgs from the 30mgs. Only doses they have. Fingers crossed because it's worked as far as getting me in remission.

Well, insurance plan just changed again. In the middle of the year. lol.

I'd already met my deductible and now, half way through the year, my deductible doubled (and thats with upgraded insurance out of pocket) meaning my deductible is no longer met, and my max out of pocket went up about 20%, which was already $8000.

At this point my insurance is just flat useless unless something catastrophic happens.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

My employer went self insured a couple of years ago.
It's actually decent insurance, but no one will accept it.
I am seriously thinking about dropping it and going the Medicare route
with an add on supplemental.

If you don't plan on getting an Advantage plan then get Plan G on your supplemental. It's the best you can get. Check several companies as the cost varies but the Plans are the same.

I don't see how this is going to be sustainable. Unless you're wealthy, anyone with any kind of chronic illness can't possibly afford $10,000 out of pocket every year for medical expenses. And it's only going to get worse from here.

I've lived a blessed life. I've been healthy my whole life, never been seriously injured
and have none of the back, knee, or hip problems that plague many people.
I know absolutely nothing about health insurance, Medicare, or any of this stuff.
I guess it's time to start learning.

It's not..
One of the reasons insurance costs are so high is that people who could normally afford health insurance
are now paying for millions who can't or won't pay for health insurance.
