If it weren't for all the attention around this song I would of never bothered listening to it. I actually looked it up this weekend.

No mention of getting drunk
No mention of mama
No mention of trains
No mention of trucks
No mention of prison

So its not even a proper country song. And the performer...imagine what Dale Earnhardt would of said about a pretty boy singer with both ears pierced.

Basically, country music sucks.

I thought I read somewhere that he didn't even write the song himself?
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

He did not, which is not uncommon at all now days. Artists get songs sent to them constantly and they get the chance to use it or pass it to the next artist.

Del.

I wrote a song about it

Wanna hear it

Here it go

That's actually a very long standing practice...heck, back in the 50's and 60's some labels even had writing teams that would put a bunch of stuff out and they would trickle it through the artists on their label...others were independants writing their own stuff and trying to sell it to people that would like to perform it...

More than a few lawsuits came out over the years of submitted songs not being used but other songs very similar being released....

To me, it's more funny that even today most people don't know that a good portion of what almost any of these "Pop" and Country artists are singing things others wrote.

I doubt George Strait ever wrote a song. Toby Keith writes almost all of his.

Sometimes their name is added to the song. Garth Brooks didn't write The Dance but his name is on it. Same with Elvis early songs.

Google is your friend here....most of George;s early songs he wrote....he commented that one of his only regrets is that he got away from writing for so long.

Know what those George Strait songs all have in common, besides George with a writing credit?

Not a hit in the bunch. :coffee:

Not a dig on George. Great singer/songwriters are rare.

The way Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote songs was amazing.
