Quote from: YoDoug on August 04, 2023, 07:49 AM1. No evidence or even a clear argument has been presented that the establishment R candidate would have or could have beat the dem in any of those races. It's just #neverTrump meaningless talking points.

2. Again, 71 million votes in 2020, Polling ahead of everyone including Biden, and crowds of thousands to tens of thousands every time he attends a rally.

3. I am not a Trump fanboi. I would love a different candidate. I am anti-establishment R. The R party at the national level is the Rino Romney led, big gov, big business, before the voter, party. They are taking money and legislating for the exact same special interests as the dems. They take nearly the same amounts of money from big pharma, big oil, etc. I would really love a different outsider to step in, or even better an actual viable third party. However given the choice of Trump or the sellout Rino party, I'll choose Trump every time.

4. You say vote for someone electable. Who is that? Pence? LOL. Christie? LOL. Not a single R candidate that would win, even against corrupt Biden.

5. In a way, I would love to see an establishment R get the nomination and watch the Dem cheat machine steal the election again just so the rest of the R's admit they cheat. However, the establishment R's are so unelectable the dems wouldn't need to cheat.

QuoteIt was August 7, 2012, and I was standing in my hotel room in Kansas City about to shotgun a beer for the first time in my life. I had just made the biggest gamble of my political career—a $1.7 million gamble—and it had paid off. Running for reelection to the U.S. Senate as a Democrat from Missouri, I had successfully manipulated the Republican primary so that in the general election I would face the candidate I was most likely to beat. And this is how I had promised my daughters we would celebrate.

But first let me go back to the beginning.

I fell for that trick in 2012. I'm not falling for it again. I'm not a never trumper. Hell, I voted for him twice. But I am not letting the Democrats pick a candidate for me. I'm also not in favor of constituion manipulation which is what he pushing Pence to do.

when you bring up the candidates you always bring up Pence, Haley, Christie not being any better than a Dem. Why do you always leave out the most obvious candidate, Desantis?

Which is to say, that you don't believe in building a coalition of voters, who could help you get most of what you want. You only want a candidate and a party who, wholly believes what you and you alone believe.  Good luck ever winning with that strategy.

In the American Revolution we had a group of leaders who wanted something. Freedom!
In the French Revolution they had a group of leaders who were Anti-establishment.

both revolutions were successful with very different outcomes.

That article still doesn't provide any analysis that the other candidates could have beat the dem. I think in most of those cases had the Est R won the nom, the dem smear machine would just do the same thing to them.

As for DeSantis, I'm on the fence about him. I like his person. I like his policy and what he has done for Florida. While he is not a complete outsider, I think he is far enough from the R party I could easily support him. The problem is, he hasn't shown any sign he can beat Trump in the primary and he is only going to hurt his brand by trying. He is also struggling to get donor support. I think he is probably the second choice of most trump supporters, but that also means he probably won't get the parties support. Remember, Romney, via his daughter, now controls the national party election war chest and machinery. IMO, he should wait until 2028 and then he could easily be the guy.

He dove way too deep in to the culture wars. He did an interview with Megyn Kelly recently and she called him out on it.  His response was less than impressive.

He's obviously a smart politician but he's soured me on him. I would have voted for him before he started pandering to the "I hate bud light" crowd.

That's the part you won't read on Fox news.

But that's the mantra of most Republican candidates. They have to do that to embrace the culture wars to win the Republican primary, and then they hope everybody forgets about it in the general. And everybody doesn't.

I don't care for Desantis.

His bumbling bullshit put a pretty big dent in my respect for him.

If he cared about those people's pensions as much as he claims, he wouldn't be personally publicly supporting these culture wars that affect these pensions.

For the TLDR crowd, he's completely full of shit.

Are you talking about the black history curriculum that was written by a team of black men that stated, some black people learned things while they were slaves that helped them when they were free? I know CBS just couldn't believe that they would teach such a thing and highlighted it on their news program without mentioning that it was written by Black History Professors and that the curriculum that the teachers union was pushing for also taught the same thing. But what ever. never mind that.

Or are you talking about the fact that Disney was\is promoting gender ideology to children and tried to strong arm the state when Desantis tried to make sure it wasn't being taught to 1st-3rd graders?
