I saw that when it happened. I've never seen anything like it. Being able to survive, much less, not being seriously hurt in a crash like that speaks a lot to the advancements they've made since Dale Earnhardt's death.

The fact that someone can walk away from something like that in those cars is just amazing.

While a scary looking and spectacular crash, I fully expected him to walk away.

It ain't how fast you're going when you crash, it's how fast you stop.

I think, as fast as that car was spinning in the air and then was suddenly stopped spinning by hitting the ground, the Hans device probably helped.

He was moving pretty slow by then. However I do see the HANS device helping with the huge G force he sustained at the start of the roll where he was upside down in the air rotating one direction, then snagged the ground and suddenly starts spinning the opposite direction. That's a major momentum change at high speed.

Dale Earnhardt was using a sixties style single seat belt. If he was wearing the then current style seat belt system he more than likely would have lived.

My dumbass brother still wont wear seat belt. Goes as far as laying it across him so the cops think its on. No safety glasses for anything. Grinding, chain saws, breaking bricks, hammering stuff, it dont matter.  he says I cant see with them on.
