Quote from: rdshear on August 28, 2023, 09:35 AMI don't know, I just don't see the general public taking it as well a second time.  I wouldn't see them trying to pull it off, but I think there are a lot of people who "Went along" the last time that wouldn't do it again.  I hope you are wrong... :wallbash:

I think you'd see a lot of small businesses give up. Most barely pulled through the last one.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Pelosi's stock portfolio needs another boost.

Didn't you just ask what the benefits of another lockdown would be? You answered yourself....

That fallout is still shaking itself out...right where I live there have been several that have finally just given up and closed the doors. A couple where older, family run businesses that just decided to close their doors and retire.

That said, I think all this lockdown talk is  :weirdo:

Quote from: neurosis on August 28, 2023, 10:55 AMThat's true, but what good is it going to do them when nobody has enough money to drive the economy? I mean, the middle class is the source of economic growth, correct? There are a hell of a lot more of *us* than *them*.

If they wanted a true collapse, why bother with the ppp loans?

You need to think about it globally. To the elite there are no countries, only geographically divided profit centers. The problem is the overall world growth both in humans, and production, is slowing and trending towards decline. The wealth of the American and European middle class is needed to keep the elites wealth from declining with the worlds economic production.

I do too, but it's always fascinating to try to follow the logic.

There is no doubt in my mind that the middle class is shrinking and the income/wealth gap is out of control. What I don't see, is how that could be beneficial to anyone.  10 years ago, if you mentioned wealth or income gap to a Conservative you'd get hammered for having "class envy".

Small example, but if you own your own home you own the asset/wealth. You can pass it your children, use it for credit leverage to start a business/create more wealth, or just sell it and blow the money on hookers and blow. If trillions more in debt added from another lockdown/bailout results in taxes so high you lose your home, then Blackrock can swoop in, buy it for pennies on the dollar, and rent it to you for the rest of your life.

Who are they going to rent it to if no-one can afford to live there?

Who's going to be buying TV's, Boats, automobiles, jet skis, or any other out of reach consumer product, if there is no middle class?

There will still be a middle class. It will just look different. In the future, be it 10 or 20 years from now, things will look different. The lower class will be those that AI/Robotics have made unemployable. They will live off gov UBI and have just enough to keep them as low dollar consumers. The middle class will be those that have employable skills/edu and they will be given just enough to buy those higher dollar things like boats and jetski's, on credit from the elite of course.

Well that's already happening isn't it?

Didn't we just reach 1trillion in credit card debt?

I can't think of too many people that aren't already saturated with CC debt.

I've been lucky most of my life. I grew up poor and never changed my lifestyle.  :D  If I can't afford it, I don't buy it. Hence, I don't have much.

Our monthly CC balance is between 0 and $2K-3k, but we pay it off every month and use the points for extra $$ towards paying it off.
