Well, there's and idea for geographic arbitrage. Weekly airfare vs cheaper property elsewhere.

Have you experienced any culture shock? Utah has to be quite a bit different than California. Winter should be fun!

It is different, which I'm fine with. Only takes a week or two to get used to many things being closed on Sundays, The people here are INFINITELY more polite. Not quite "southern" polite, but much better than the PRK. Bought a snow blower, and a snow shovel. I'll need to update my wardrobe and get some snow tires in the coming months. the LDS presence is everywhere, and I'm fine with that. They have their theology, I have mine. I'm most definitely NOT going to try to make this place like the PRK. I left that shit hole for a reason. It's run by shit birds with no clue as to what liberty and personal responsibility are or mean.

I had my Utah driver's license the day after we signed documents for the house and bought a rifle that day - WITH my paper driver's license  , walked out the door 15min later... only took that long because the ATF are bastards and require their paperwork. I've had a Utah CCW for a number of years. They do a quick check to make sure it hasn't been revoked, then I'm good. The ATF stuff is just a formality.

I've already got a few suppressors on order.... which I have been unable to own or possess for my entire natural born life because all decibels matter and because FUCK YOU KOMMIEFORNIA! No longer being a felon for possession of a certain scary black rifle is a plus too... :coffee: Imagine owning something for YEARS, then overnight, mere possession of it is a felony. Apparently ex post facto is something those illiterate democrat pieces of shit can't comprehend.

If any of you have Demonrat legislators, you better call and tell them Gavin Greusome is a tyrannical piece of shit and should NOT be backed on his quest for The White House.

Shovel & blower won't be as heavily used as it would up north, but good insurance. If you got it, you won't need it kind of thing. Depends on the winter tho.
Wardrobe? You would be amazed what you get used to. You've been to our shop. A few of us wearing shorts year round. I had to break out pants this week for the first time in 8 months because of jury duty, now that felt weird.

Good to have you local!

I spent a few months total here 2021 between January and August. Drove through whiteout conditions 4x between Richfield and Gunnison.

My neighbor had to shovel his sidewalk and driveway about 8x this past winter which was a record year. Better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it I always say.

It's good to be local for a variety of non-political reasons as well. Since I'm a corporate asset I travel throughout our whole territory (California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Utah and Nevada. Being in the SLC area puts me about as close to the middle as I can get. More direct flights are available from SLC than were available at my old airport (ONT). Translates to being better for our customers.

My mom built a new house 2 years ago and decided to have everything sprayfoam insulated.  Even here in muggy ass Alabaam, it's amazing.  Even their attached garage never got above 82 this summer.  The ROI is the only downside, it probably takes 8-10 years to see the cost savings (lower power bill).  Her 2200 sq ft house was like 12k for insulation.

There's at least a few dozen deputies that live in other states, and fly in the day of or day before their shift, stay in an apartment rented with other commuter deputies, and fly out when they are done. Truth be told, if someone lived in say Palmdale or Lancaster (SoCal high desert) and worked in say South LA, they could fly from Boise, Bozeman, SLS, or PHX and have a shorter commute than that drive. The traffic in SoCal is next level. I had a customer in El Segundo (just south of LAX) and it took me just shy of 3 hours to get home... and it's only like 62 miles-ish.
