In my opinion, the moment someone flies off the handle and resorts to foaming-at-the-mouth swearing and name calling, they've proven they can't rationally support their position, and their cognitive dissonance is chafing.  Instant disqualification.

Yep, screaming @#$%&*, never leads to anything constructive. If you want to express that content to someone, send them a gaddamned PM.
I realize some folks get a bit of titular enjoyment from watching a conversation turn into a trainwreck, but many of us don't wanna see that shit. I'm not a prude, I'm just not in Jr High anymore.

Perfect example.

1. Both OK?

2. Neither OK?

3. 1st OK but not the 2nd?

4. 2nd OK but not the first?

below are the 12 "rules for Radicals" that have become the playbook of the modern dem party. You can't have civilized debate with them when they believe "ridicule is man's most potent weapon". Or when they "push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into it's counterside". They are intellectually dishonest, thus there is no civil debate. It's exactly how they want it.

Quote"Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have."
"Never go outside the expertise of your people."
"Whenever possible go outside the expertise of the enemy."
"Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules."
"Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. There is no defense. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage."
"A good tactic is one your people enjoy."
"A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag."
"Keep the pressure on."
"The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself. "
"The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition."
"If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside; this is based on the principle that every positive has its negative."
"The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative."
"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. "

Science of swearing: Researchers reveal 'sounding like a sailor' may be a sign of intelligence, creativity and has super powers that help us endure more pain
Science has found a number of positives and benefits of swearing
People who curse have a more fluent vocabulary, which is linked to intelligence
Studies have found that it is a sign of honesty, as it shows true emotions
Using profanity activates an area of the right brain known as the 'creative brain'
Another study found that using foul language increases our pain threshold

Truthfully, the majority of those "rules" are sound tactics. #2 and #3 are good advice for anyone. There are a few that are very immoral as well. I will be honest and admit that both parties can be found using those immoral tactics. However when it comes to a desire to debate the merits of policy and legislation, the right is far more willing to debate. This is evidenced by the left's constant claims of racism, xenophobia, etc, rather than debate the actual merits of a topic. You can also see it in the purely blatant hypocritical responses from the left. Like when the left called Trump's Covid China travel ban racist and xenophobic, but now says Biden travel ban is bold and life saving. If the left truly wants unity they need to be honest and consistent in debate. Judging by their actions though, it would seem as if they don't really want unity.

The left's definition of 'unity' is "Shut up and do as you are told."
That's the only kind of 'unity' they want.

Anything else immediately gets you labeled and canceled.

They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." - Mark Twain

I think that Smit is just talking in the context of the forum.

Technically, there is only a small group on here that gets indignant with each other. I know of at least two regulars who refuse to come here because of the constant vulgarity. I know that there are several who point the finger in one direction but if we're going to be honest, its been a two way street that escalates. People were calling Tyler Cryler long before he was able to fight back. Now everyone gets upset when he name calls?

My opinion on this, which again, probably doesn't hold much water.   :D   If people are going to tell someone that their opinion stupid, or call derogatory names in a post response, don't get upset if they retaliate. If you are, then don't start.  If the thread goes down the shitter, as a couple of them have, we'll make an area to move them and let them die out so the people who don't want to see the vulgarity don't have to.

I don't think that anyone wants to start locking threads and over moderating.  We're all adults and shouldn't need to be babysat.

Shazam makes a good point. This is why we can't have nice things.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.
