Quote from: mkd on October 10, 2023, 12:27 PMpretty basic tenent of Christianity; Adam and eves free will and the forbidden fruit.

It goes way deeper than that. 'Unseen Realm' is a great book to read. It explains everything pretty well.

The bible, unlike the Qu'ran, tells a complete story from beginning to end. The inter-connectedness of this series of different books by different authors covering a span of almost 2,000 years screams of inspired writings.

After the creation account, the bible takes us to the very beginning...the Garden of Eden. Think of it as an intersection of the heavenly realm and earthly realm. Here, God dwells. Humanity dwells. Spiritual beings dwell. Humanity is immortal. Without sin (which is open rebellion against God). The serpent deceives Eve (and Adam by extension). Humanity is kicked out of God's presence (and as a result, we become mortal - just like the animals which we have dominion over).

Throughout the Old Testament, the prophets speak of "the day of the Lord". "In that day" < this speaks of a distant, future event. They describe a mass scale resurrection of the bodies of those who acknowledge YHWH (the Lord's name He gave to Moses...I Am Who I Am). The New Testament says the exact same thing, in countless passages just like the Old Testament. The culmination of this incredible event is described in the book of Revelation, where there are two resurrection events. One for the believers (good!) and one for the unbelievers (BAD!).

Revelation says "in that day" there will be a New Heaven and a New Earth (and a New Jerusalem). It is not saying our planet and the universe will be destroyed and recreated. What it is saying is the Garden of Eden-like state will return to humankind. Once again, we will no longer sin (rebel against God). We will have transformed, glorified bodies - just like Adam and Eve had before their open rebellion against God. We will become, once again, immortal.

Now, how can we believe all that? Seems farfetched. The reason we can is...Christ died, Christ rose again, Christ ascended into heaven. (Skeptics for centuries have tried to explain away the resurrection....the tomb is still empty)

A careful study of all scripture, both old and new testaments, reveals an integrated story line. Moses, the psalms, and the prophets wrote about Me (Luke 24:44). By Jesus saying this He's challenging us to look for ourselves. And I've looked and studied...there's too much there to deny. Jesus is in the Old Testament. It's clear as day.

Sadly, many will scoff without ever bothering to research themselves. Their souls are / will be damned, because they reject the Son of God. God gives us free will. We can choose our destiny. (Choose wisely!)

Every bit as good if not better given the same opportunities. The listen better. Have less ego. Etc... crew service weapons are a problem for them so going smaller on the platform helps (.338 Lapua or .416 Barrett as opposed to .50 BMG). Womens CAN shooot fo sho!

Archaeologists in the Middle East don't take fairy tales with them, but they 100% DO take Bibles with them.

Archaeologists (on Discovery or History channel, or one of those) excavating Jericho found evidence the walls did crumble. They attribute it to an earthquake, they estimated around 1200 to 1400 BC or thereabouts. They found a layer where black soot was everywhere. That was evidence of a massive fire. They note a corner section of the wall and a building attached to it remained intact (that was where Rahab the prostitute lived, who helped the Israeli spies and was spared)

And the Archaeologists DID have bibles with them.

I find those digs very interesting. I love archaeology. But I have never found them very compelling in the case for bible authenticity. It's very possible that what the Israelites wrote down happened and the archaeology confirms it. but it's also possible that the ancient people saw the ruins and attributed a story to it. much like Native Americans did to places like Devil's Tower in Wyoming.

The most compelling evidence in the Bible to me, is the entire story woven together written over many centuries, that doesn't really make sense until the life of Jesus tied it all together. And even then, if he hadn't risen from the dead, it was still just a story. Everything hinges on the Resurrection to prove the Christian Narrative.

When I read the story of Jonah and the whale that was just a fairy tale to me. When I realized it was prophecy it completely changed how I read the bible. When I read the story of Abraham about to sacrifice Isaac, I thought, "what the Hell?" But when I saw that that sacrifice took place on the same mountain that Jesus was crucified on, that Isaace carried the wood for his own sacrifice up that same mountain. That Abraham said, God Himself will provide the lamb for the sacrifice.  That's when it stopped being fairy tales to me and started to come alive. But even still. If Jesus doesn't rise from the dead, it's still just fairy tales. It was through a personal miraculous experience that I realized that Jesus was alive. But if someone needs an explanation no one does it better than William Lane Craig.
