Find one in an area that doesn't have astronomical home owners insurance rates.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Quote from: pmartin on November 08, 2023, 08:23 AMOkay, here is a way to enjoy kale without just throwing it at your mother-in-law. Cut up and cook some onion. While the onion is cooking cut up a generous amount of garlic, set aside. Next strip kale from the stems and chop it not too fine. herbs that play well with kale are sage, parsley, even basil so grab some of those from the garden and cut them fine. Now add the garlic and brown for a couple of minutes then add the kale, a bit of salt, fresh ground pepper and a generous splash of liquid (I like to use chicken broth) cover and let steam for a couple more minutes before adding the herbs. Cover again, put the lid back on and turn off the heat. I a few minutes crack the lid to let the steam escape (this will preserve the bright green of the kale) Bon Appetit'. By the way I use this concoction in my crustless quiche, substituting spiniach or Swiss chard depending on the season. I make this quiche almost every Sunday at our B&B and have made it literally hundreds of times.

To live. I hate Minnesota with a passion. The weather sucks. It's full of "Minnesota nice" ignorant liberals. 5th highest tax state in the country. I am counting the days until we can move south. I always figured we would end up in Tennessee, but with the job having a location in Florida now, we could end up there.

Florida is hot as hell away from the beach

I think I would rather stay in Kansas. I hate humidity. Come to think of it, I'm not a fan of Kansas weather either.

One of our higher ups lives in Kansas. He said when he grew up he moved out of Kansas cause he hated it, then later in life moved back to Kansas. "I don't know why I went back it sucks, I think I forgot that it sucked"

That's all my knowledge of Kansas.

I don't think that I'd like the idea of living anywhere that has tornadoes every year.

I can do that with some mushrooms picked right out of the lawn of a local park.

I second that, but I'd say any major natural disaster. I can't imagine "We gotta go a *insert natural disaster* is coming. Pack a suitcase and lets hit the road". I don't understand how people can live in places like that

I acquired a great deal of knowledge about it over the weekend. The short version is there's NOTHING west of Wichita.

Looks like this...

If you don't want tornadoes stay away from Oklahoma.

If it's not tornadoes it's hurricanes; if not hurricanes it's earthquakes, or wildfires or mudslides. Every place has it's issues.

I've actually only seen a tornado once. I've seen the aftermath quite a bit, between here and Oklahoma. Usually when the conditions are right to see a tornado I head to shelter.

I had to go to the basement of a Mcdonald's at a rest area on the highway once.

If it wasn't for the weather there would be no excitement here.

At least with tornadoes you don't have to pack a bag and it's usually over quickly.

You've heard of "Children of the Corn"?

We have Children of the Wheat.

No worries, though. They're all under 2 feet tall.

This is the area we hunted just outside of Hugoton, Kansas. The big circles are a mile in diameter. We mostly hunted the grassy corners where it's just prairie grass. Under the sprinklers they grow corn, milo, sunflowers, even some cotton. Outside the sprinklers it's a very drought resistant hybrid wheat or milo. Or nothing at all.

Being a farm kid, I'm always curious about farming in different places. I asked the guy whose land we were hunting on how many acres he farmed. He said he didn't know. I've never met a farmer who didn't know how many acres he farmed. He said we don't count acres, we count circles. He farms 35 circles.
