Quote from: Smit on December 22, 2023, 06:04 AMI'm mildly surprised but I guess I shouldn't be.

I was gonna say I don't care then changed to no because if people want to do that it's their business.

IMO, the same way it should be with drugs and alcohol.

I don't like sin taxes either.
libertarian party has room for one more. we have cookies.

Quote from: Smit on December 22, 2023, 06:26 AMAs I said, there is no good reason it couldn't be the best in the world.

But humans being what they are it would inevitably be corrupted by greed and profiteering. Kinda like the system we have right now.

I appreciate you actually taking a position on an issue instead of just throwing funny bombs from the peanut gallery.
The US has fascist healthcare at the moment; total gov't control of private industry.
As an Ex-pat you can get an international health insurance policy that;ll cover you anywhere in the world.....
wait for it.....

except in the US. :o

Going full commie with it, as in your proposed single payer system is going to help exactly how?

Availability, quality or price? PICK ANY TWO.

See my post about per capita spending.

Ok,so Favoring price at the cost of availability or quality?
 1. do you prefer 1 year or 18 month wait times?
 2. or would you rather have open heart surgery in a straw hut with tequila for anesthesia?

Mick Jagger could have had communist open heart surgery in London, but chose to come to the US for our Fascist system. I wonder why?

There are single payer systems all over the planet. With the amount of money we spend we could have the best. And have money left over. Except for the human part as I mentioned before.

The U.S. has great health care for the wealthy and the healthy. :)

you're not wrong.
gov't carrying too much power sure has corrupted the system, between the lobbyist and political types securing their million dollar private sector retirement when they get booted out of office.

I was talking with a 65 Yo guy last weekend. His college frat buddy is driving Ferraris and living a real jest setter style. Yeah, he lobbies the state gov't for a public sector union. :-\

I was tempted to vote "I don't care" but that's only because I'm not concerned with vaping.
I do care because, where do you draw the line and who decides where to draw the line.
Seems the line has already been crossed and I'm tired of being complacent.
So, No.

When literally EVERYTHING is "Big...", NOTHING is.

It's like calling people with a zero next to their body count "Hitler".

Quote from: YoDoug on December 22, 2023, 07:09 AMThe USDA has a 12 member board that creates the guidelines every 5 years. At one point 9 of those 12 were previous big food corp execs/management or had direct ties through spouse/family/investments/etc. Make guidelines that favor big food corporation/industries and you will have a space reserved for you on the board of a big food corp in a decade. It's a revolving door of corruption that is well documented. The recommendations are very misleading and even contradict themselves. Google "USDA guidelines corporate influence" and you will find dozens of reports and articles showing just how corrupt the system is.

The problem with regulating "behavior", and make no mistake, skiing, scuba diving, drinking, running, smoking, vaping, drugs, etc... ARE ALL behaviors.

So, where does it stop? ALL of those things can and DO cause injuries that we all pay for.
