As I said, there is no good reason it couldn't be the best in the world.

 gov't carrying too much power sure has corrupted the system, between the lobbyist and political types securing their million dollar private sector retirement when they get booted out of office.

 I was talking with a 65 Yo guy last weekend. His college frat buddy is driving Ferraris and living a real jest setter style. Yeah, he lobbies the state gov't for a public sector union.

The USDA has a 12 member board that creates the guidelines every 5 years. At one point 9 of those 12 were previous big food corp execs/management or had direct ties through spouse/family/investments/etc. Make guidelines that favor big food corporation/industries and you will have a space reserved for you on the board of a big food corp in a decade. It's a revolving door of corruption that is well documented. The recommendations are very misleading and even contradict themselves. Google "USDA guidelines corporate influence" and you will find dozens of reports and articles showing just how corrupt the system is.

The problem with regulating "behavior", and make no mistake, skiing, scuba diving, drinking, running, smoking, vaping, drugs, etc... ARE ALL behaviors. 

So, where does it stop? ALL of those things can and DO cause injuries that we all pay for.
