There is. I wanted to enroll in the legal benefit and carry it until we get our estate planning done. That will save me thousands of dollars. Also I'll have company health care thru January so it'll save a couple hundred bucks there. I'm going full Medicare in February.

My official day was going to be Friday but they decided to have the get together today and gave me Thursday and Friday off with pay. It will be good retirement practice. :)

And sure, Holiday pay on the 1st too. :)

Congrats, man.

I guess beer's on me next time I'm in KC. Since you're now on a fixed income and all. :fun:

Del, we're a dying breed.

I'd love to pass on the knowledge I have garnered over the years, financially, I simply can't teach, though I have been offered.  I'd love to get a young person in here like the one I have here now. That it seems though is likely to be the realistic limit of what I am going to be able to do...

There is a portion of knowledge that we all know isn't really relevant in today's shops BUT it is the basis for much of what we learned and still use today...

Many today know some of the hows, enough many times to get by. What they lack is the why's...

At the end of the day though, we're a dying breed.

I was right on the edge.  The shop I started in was 90% manual and 10% CNC.  We had 12 real machinists and 3 machine operators.  I wish I could have started about 5 years sooner.

There's a guy here who did the same thing. Waited until after the holidays to retire.

Nicely done Smit! A trip to the Philippines sounds like a stellar way to start retirement. Great plan & have fun. Don't drink the water BTW. And make sure you get some balut.
