Quote from: Flycut on January 29, 2024, 09:01 AMAnother trick that I have practiced is to make a conscious effort to check clocks twice while I am awake.
When you are dreaming and notice certain things it will become a reflex to check a second time.
If something changes abnormally the second time you check you might realize you are dreaming.
I remember the time I checked the clock in my dream last night was 3:15 pm and knew something was off because I had missed da whole day of work.  ::)

Wow-I'd never thought of that! I can't recall ever seeing a clock in any of my dreams.

Quote from: Flycut on January 29, 2024, 09:04 AMI remember nightmares when I started in this trade.
I machine would crash and I would hit the emergency stop button and the machine would keep crashing.
I would go to the back of the machine and turn off the breaker and the machine would keep going.
That is worse then the falling out of a plane dream. ;D

Wow-I get that, too! Like you hit feed hold and it doesn't do a damn thing! I'll have to try the e-stop, and the breaker next time, but it sounds like that doesn't work either!

It's a good thing I verify all of my code, and am really careful with new setups! LOL

I seem to have recurring dreams

JakeL

3 lucid dreams to date. Only one where I didn't wake up immediately.

years ago I kept a dream journal for a couple months in an effort to lucid dream. Along with the check the clock thing. the couple weeks before I stopped I was remembering 3-5 dreams per night. I looked forward to sleeping just to see what I dreamt.

Now a days I remember a dream a couple times a week at most.

I did have it happen once where I sat straight up in bed with a solution to a work problem. That was pretty cool.

I tried to convince a friend once that I was in a dream and they were part of my dream.
They argued that I could not be dreaming because they were right there talking to me.
I told them I would make the building in front of us blow up.
It didn't blow up but it simply disappeared.
My friend said my prediction was wrong so I clearly wasn't dreaming. ::)

Quote from: Flycut on January 29, 2024, 07:51 AMIt seems to come in waves for me.
Many factors come into play.
2 major factors are stress and alcohol.
I haven't had had a drink in 2 weeks and this new machine has my mind in constant overdrive.
I sleep like a rock and dream like crazy.

Beyond a certain point, alcohol is terrible for sleep. I would go to sleep (some might call it passing out) and, about 3 hours later, wake up and stay awake. And the quality of sleep is poor. Not the kind that refreshes you.

Yeah that is my experience as well.
I have noticed that sometimes a dream develops from a snippet of something I was consciously thinking about earlier in the day.

Just a couple of weeks ago I had a strong memory of something my Dad and I did when he was still with us, and that very night I had a dream with him in it, but totally unrelated to the events of earlier memory.

Weird, huh?

Yeah I think that's because even though you are sleeping, your body is still working overtime trying to process the alcohol in your system.

That's why hangover symptoms after a night of heavy drinking almost always include tiredness (feeling as if you didn't sleep at all), and headache, which I have found is simply due to dehydration.

I have learned that even if I just have a beer or two watching a hockey game at night, I always drink a bottle of water before going to sleep.  I may need to get up to pee during the night, but I almost never get a headache in the morning.

I always looked at it like Propofil. Even though you're unconscious the brain doesn't reach the deep sleep where it does housekeeping and maintenance.

Here is what makes last nights dream all the more interesting.

It was a long and detailed dream and at some point I realize that I'm at the house of one of my co-workers.
There was many people at his house but no one I recognized.
(I had no prior knowledge of where he lived)
I realized that from his back yard there was a perfect view of the mountains.
When I mentioned this to him this morning he said he had a party at his place that day and he has the best view of the mountains.
Dreams are very significant in his religion.
Him and I don't usually chat much but we had a good 20 minute conversation today.

After my mom died, I had a dream where I was in a diner and a guy tells me I have a phone call. I went to the phone and it was my mom. We had a conversation where I asked if she was happy and she said "oh yes, very". The next night, I had another dream. In this one, we were in a bleachers like would be at some sort of youth sports event. This time a could see her. I got the impression it was a bit of an effort on her part. She looked different than I remembered her and realized this was what she had looked like before I was born. She Had some extensive dental work before I was born. She then introduced me to a woman named Paula. I don't understand Paula, unless she was the baby my mom miscarried before I was born.

After my mom passed, I was alone with her in the hospital and got very emotional and apologized to her. I truly believe this was her way of letting me know she was okay.
