These are my thoughts as well. The debate against DeSantis was a test, and he pretty much failed it. However the lefties don't have much else to bring to the table who doesn't suit the batshit crazy half of their party.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. That is another reason why I don't think he will run this time. In modern times you normally only get one shot a prez nomination/run. If you lose in the general you are done. I do think Newsome would run in the future, but he doesn't want to run against Trump this year with a bad economy and trump's popularity. Also he still has time left as Gov of Cali. IMO, I could very easily believe a 2028 DeSantis vs Newsome ballot being highly possible.
