He taught me how to use them, kept a 38 S&W in a drawer and made sure I knew where it was.

My dad says when he was in high school they left they're shotguns and rifles leaned against the wall in the office. They'd leave school and go straight out hunting.

I was 9 when I got my first motorcycle and a Marlin 18 shot .22 Long rifle.

My Brother (older) got a .30/30

I was pissed. :o

My brother got a .410 single shot for Christmas one time. He also got a guitar and amplifier another year. I got things like a chemistry set.

When I was in high school probably 1/4 of the vehicles in the parking lot were pickup trucks with a rifle rack across the back window in the cab.  Depending on the season there would be rifles, shotguns, or bows hanging on the rack in almost every one of them so guys could go hunting right after school.

Times have certainly changed...

Yup. I remember those days well. Almost all pick up trucks had full gun racks.

Guns used to be tools instead of a major part of a persons psyche.

But there are a lot more nuts nowadays it seems.

There was violence in the hallways when I was in high school, mainly do to forced bussing. I'd come across big groups pummeling each other with those 70s style belts with the huge belt buckles. It was not uncommon to come across janitors mopping up blood. No one got shot and I only saw one gun. I don't think it was functional.
If that had happened today there would have been bodies everywhere.

Jeff

I remember gun racks in trucks at school (Class of 87).
I also remember about 2nd or 3rd grade a kid in my class brought a knife to school and was flashing it around.
Not long after that he was gone. I don't think he got expelled though.

Del.

When I was in school all the guys had muskets in their wagon.

At least you didn't have to carry stone tablets to carve your notes in. Those suckers got heavy.
