This thing say's it's made by Haimer. Anyone know if this is the Haimer Universal 3D Sensor? If it is, this seems like a really good price.

Yea.. If it's the same as the original Haimer Universal then it's $100 cheaper. It just has the ugly Haas logo on the face.

I don't know that Haimer actually builds those either. I have two of them that I use for finding robot work coordinates. The one here in MN is a Fowler and the one in FL is an SPI. Both look identical to the Haimer/Haas one.

You don't know if they build the 3d sensors?  Just the Haas version?

Usually when you see a product branded under different names one of the companies owns the design but outsources the MFG. I see it all the time with automation components. Haimer may own the design and license it to Haas/Fowler/etc but they are probably all made in the same factory in China.

I have the haimer version, very pricey but has not given me any issues when using it.

I may call or email them and ask. I don't think they would try to hide it if they're outsourced.

I do notice that they link to all of Haimers documentation but that doesn't mean they're made by Haimer.

Either way, both of the ones I have work well within their capabilities. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if needed. I don't use them in our machines though as all of our machines have probes.

It took a LOT of convincing to get the spindle probe with our Horizontal. Spindle probes take away from the shop owners new car and boat money.  :D

Most of our machines have tool presetters at least but we have a couple of machines that the pre-setters went tits up and I'm starting to get the impression that they're never going to be fixed.

I don't have one problem with any of the Haas tooling I have bought. Some of their shop floor inspection tools, like dial depth gages are real nice on the floor. You don't feel quite as bad about an operator dropping a $50 tool vs a $250 one.

Most of the cutting tools are YG, which at the prices Haas is selling them, are real tough to beat for a all around job shop tool.

The 3D sensor says country of origin is Germany, so that's something.

I contacted Haas today and they told me that anything that says "by Haimer" was made directly by Haimer.  The 3d sensors have a 'made in Germany' logo on the dial.

I'm reaching out to Haimer as well to see if they'll answer.

Here's Johnny!

The video says they are by Haimer.

Sounds good to me. As I said before, I have two of them and wouldn't have a problem recommending them to anyone.

Just talked to Haimer support on the phone. They said the Haas Sensor, as long as they say 'by Haimer' on them, is identical to the Haimer Universal 3d Sensor.

In case anyone ever wants to know.
