I haven't followed this much since the 80's when I thought I was going to be in a metal band and become famous.   

Wasn't Page a studio musician?  Not trying to take away from his talent when I say he stold music.  Just seemed weird that they stold so many riffs.

He was a studio musician. He also played in the Yardbirds. If I remember correctly, the first iteration of Led Zeppelin was called the New Yardbirds.

Many of them were blues songs originally recorded by black artists. "Babe I'm going to leave you" was a folk song written in the late 50s and first covered by Joan Baez. The song writer settled with Zep in 1990. Dazed and Confused was a song written by Jake Holmes. He sued in 2010 and settled in 2012.
The band Spirit sued Led Zeppelin claiming that Stairway to Heaven was a rip off of one their song they played while opening for Zeppelin. However, they lost that case.

Zepplin being part of the British invasion made no bones about the fact they came hear to get into the roots of the deep south american blues scene. Coming together in their early 20s putting out an incredible debut album, not a single as was common practice, that set the rock and roll world on it's head isn't to be taken lightly even if they were loose with the writing credits.
 The stairway to heaven comparo seems like a copy just done incredibly better, which is why

in the
known
universe
period

musical tastes are to the ear of the beholder. Your opinion is correct for you 100%
 I still remember the very first time hearing Zepplin's 'rock and roll' circa 1981. At a childhood friends house where his cool single mom queued it up on her HiFi at a reasonably good volume to get the full effect. I didn't know anything about music but could recognize and was in awe of the talent.
 I just can't decide on which Zepplin epic is THE GREATEST ROCK SONG OF ALL TIME.
