Back in Black is the best album of all time. It's preposterous that you don't like Brian Johnson.
Yeah he sounds like ass live, most bands do.
Best sounding live band = Judas Priest.

It's preposterous for you to think it's preposterous that I think Brian Johnson sounds like Donald Duck.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on April 19, 2024, 09:25 PMOh contrair mon frair... I think Led Zeppelin is dog shit. Barely a couple notches above Bruce Springsteen.

Jimmy Page... meh.
John Bonham ... very good
Robert Plant... meh

Aren't you a Depeche Mode fan?

Jess askin. :fun:

As a band, I do not think they are overrated. I think Page is as a guitar player. He's really kinda sloppy.

But nobody has written as many great riffs as that dude.  Moby Dįck, Good Times, Rock and Roll, The Ocean, Heartbreaker, 10 Years Gone, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dawg, Dancing Days, Stairway To Heaven, Kashmir.

His only peer when it comes to that volume of great riffs is probably Angus Young.

Fixed that for ya.

"Fan" is a stretch. I can appreciate some of their music but probably not truly a fan.

I like all kinds of genres. It's probably easier to list the kinds of music I won't listen to than what I will listen to.

We met in 1984 didn't we?

When I started to get REALLY HEAVY into doing and running drugs, I changed the way I dressed to keep the heat from the law off me. Not quite Flock of Seagulls hair but definitely new wave hair. All my metal buddies were getting harassed by cops, and me, I had to stay relatively clean cut.

When you're cruising your bike around town with between 3 and 5 kilos of blow in your school backpack you kinda want to keep a low profile. :O

Old Fart Rant:

I have never been a fan of pop music. When I was younger we called it Top 40, or, bubble gum, which was mostly a.m. radio.

I am still not a fan, although there are some very talented people. But, that's where the money is, so that's where artists go.

When I was in the 9th grade, a got a copy of Grand Funk Live. That was some of the most ear splitting, face melting music I had ever heard. They sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles. But you knew when they made the decision to go for the money. They put out stuff like "Some Kind of Wonderful" and "Locomotion". I understand and don't blame them a bit, but it was disappointing.

The same with Judas Priest. My favorite Priest album is "Sad Wings of Destiny" but it is by no means radio friendly. So, they finally morphed into music like "British Steel" and songs like "You've Got Another Thing Common"; which, btw, is one of my biggest musical pet peeves. The saying is "you've gotta another think coming". Basically saying "if you think this, then think again".

And, while I'm ranting, what's the deal with hair metal? Why is called metal? Because it has loud guitars?

I'm primarily a metal and blues based rock fan, but, like James, I like lots of different kinds of music. I just don't like stuff that panders to the lowest common denominator.

Thanks, I feel better.

Merengue music is Latin music with a lot of horns. I love brass instrument music. Probably goes back to my trumpet and trombone playing days as a kid.

"Hair Metal" I've always taken it to be a more visual description of the musicians than description of the music.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I listened to their 1st album a few months ago again - I'd forgotten just how good he was.
That band had a guitar player?
