Got back from DC late Monday. It was a great trip. Most of our time was spent focused on the Marine Corp Marathon that my buddy ran, but we squeezed in a bit of sightseeing.

We got to go up the Washington Monument. And we went for a 4 mile run around the area. Stopped at a few places (WW2, Korean, Vietnam Memorials, and Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, MLK Jr Monuments to name a few). The best way I can explain my time there is I was never like "ya that's pretty cool" everything I saw made me go "WOAH that's insane!".

Definitely want to go back in the next couple years with my girlfriend.

Washington DC was always one of my "must visit" places, for all the history, and for the Air and Space Museums. I'm a bit of a vintage aircraft nut, and being down here in New Zealand we dont have the breadth of rare aircraft in the rest of the world. We made it DC in 2018 and it was well worth it.

Our favourite place was Mt Vernon, George Washingtons estate, and where he and Martha are buried, and Old Town Alexandria. It was such an interesting area to visit.

That's top of my list. We just couldn't fit it into this trip, which is ok cause it gives me a reason to go back.

Next time I'll fly tho, wasn't a huge fan of the 7 hour car ride.

I never thought about people from other countries being interested in going to DC.

Went to DC at Christmas time.  Did a midnight memorial run. The Korean Memorial wasn't officially open yet. A light snow had fallen. We suddenly found ourselves amidst the depictions of infantry.  THAT was haunting!

Well, it has some of the iconic US buildings, like the Capital Building, and the Whitehouse, along with the Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials.

We did get to visit Arlington Cemetery, the Capitol Building and see the White House. Ran out of time to visit the Ford Theatre or see some of the other Smithsonians.

The other place I want to head to is Dayton, Ohio. The US Air Force Museum there houses some very rare aircraft. One day....

It's better than the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, IMHO.

I believe it would be, given the sheer quantity of exhibits.

Gotta add that one to my list, thanks

I also want to go to the museum with the space shuttle on display. I know I'll be blown away by that

In Hutchinson Kansas there is the Cosmosphere. They have many exhibits from throughout the space program, including actual capsules, space suits, even a lunar rover. They built many of the sets used in the movie "Apollo 13", often from original blue prints.

They also have an SR-71 on display.
The Cosmosphere is an affiliate of the Smithsonian.

There is a shuttle on display at the Udvar Hazy Center out in Chantilly. I have been to that museum twice. It has the Enola Gay, and a bunch of rare Nazi aircraft (Dornier 335, Arado 234, Heinkel 219 and the Horten 229). Their storage facility has a bunch of others waiting to be restored too.

That's the one I know about. Next trip to DC I'll be headed there too.

Forgot to mention, right before the DC marathon started they had two Osprey do a flyover. That was pretty sick

I really enjoyed that museum. Even my wife and children did as well (though not as much as me LOL)

When I was last there, they had the B26 Marauder "Flak Bait" in the restoration hangar being worked on.

The Ospreys would have been cool to see!

My wife is presenting at a medical conference this week in DC so decided to tag along. Had a White House tour this morning, walking through the rooms and Marine 1 lands and scoops up Uncle Joe. A little bit of excitement to liven up a boring tour. And no, he didn't trip on the stairs.
