I haven't put out a resume' in 15 years, yet I still get emails from headhunters, usually with South Asian sounding names. The latest is for a contract cnc programmer in Fort Worth.

Their client really needs to update their requirements list.

Seriously. CADAM hasn't been around in, what, 30 years? Same with APT. I don't think it has been used as a primary programming language in about the same time.

Foolish headhunters.  ;D

Those are not headhunters...they are recruiters....BIG difference...

A headhunter is hired by a company to find a specific talent....

recruiters, with a few exceptions, by and large are slime

Yea. For sure. Went through that last year, sounded GREAT until I was essentially negotiating on my own... For an interim position the shop "needed more urgently", but you'll totally be the programmer in the next year or so.

Hard pass on all cold calls

When I made my living as an onsite contract programmer we kind of used the terms interchangeably. and it was about 50-50 if they were slime or not. I was working through Butler at a job; I knew the client company and had agreed to come in for $45 an hour. I just needed Butler to handle the administrative stuff. I get a call from my Butler rep telling my they got me an extra $5 an hour. This set off my spidey sense, since I had already agreed to a wage. When I started the job everyone seemed pissed at me. Turns out, Butler had lied to them and said I was refusing to come in without the higher wage. I told the people I was working for that they had lied and it turned into an embarrassment for everyone. About 6 months later the checks from Butler started to be late. They ended up going bankrupt. Luckily, I was able to switch shops to PDS Technical. They were great. This all happened around 2007. 2008 was the last time I worked as a contractor.

If you're interested, the guy I reccommend is Bryan Cerkas. He's a pretty solid dude.

Yeah, I remember. Didn't he usually recruit for direct hire positions?

There was a magazine and later a website called Contract Employment Weekly that everyone used to look for work. I think it still exists along with CJHunter.com.

He's still at it.
We used him last year trying to find a programmer, but he wasn't able to come up with anyone.
It wasn't for lack of trying though.

Brian is top notch. I almost took a contract position through him years ago and when I declined it he was 100% respectable. I only declined it due to it was an overseas position and some of my family wasn't comfortable being away from our home. Would have been a heck of an opportunity =) but Brian totally understood and never pressured me one bit. If anything I asked him probably waaaaay too many questions and he answered all of them.

I do remember in the early days of Catia a CADAM screen would pop up on login. Don't remember why.

I get at least one call a week. the give away is I get a call, text and e-mail about 5 seconds apart. I picked up one time and told to take me off the list and they instantly hung up on me.
not thinking they have the slightest of my interests in mind.
