Quote from: gcode on July 03, 2024, 06:22 AMFaithless Trump electors would still be talking to grand juries, faithless Biden electors still get a free pass.

The push for "faithless electors" in 2016 actually benefited Trump and hurt Hillary.

So an elector very publicly voting against the popular vote in their State vs someone who isn't actually an elector and just claiming to be, attempting to change the vote count by knowingly signing and submitting forged Electoral College certificates, is just semantics?

I would assume it would take a lot more balls to go the "fake elector" route?  :D At least faithless electors can look up State laws to find the consequences. In some cases, your vote wont count. "In 14 states, votes contrary to the pledge are voided and the respective electors are replaced"

Looking in to this, there isn't a lot of info on penalties for fake electors.  I assume it's different State to State?
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

No, they broke the law and may well go to prison for it.
In my mind they are patriots... they believed the election was stolen and risked everything to fix that.
They are no alone in that belief.
The last polls I saw said 60% of Republicans and 35% of Democrats believe the 2020 election was stolen.

No... that's conclusive proof that the MSM are nothing more than lying propagandists for the left.
That's something that people who are paying attention have known for years.
Debate night ripped the veil off for all to see the obvious truth.
Our President has the IQ of a house plant and is not capable of doing his job.
Hower, Smit's rose colored glasses booted into emergency war powers overdrive and it would
appear that his amazing ignorance has survived intact.

When misinformation is spread loudly enough and often enough, people will fall for it. So, according to your polls, (link please) Republicans are almost twice as likely to fall for BS than Democrats. (These numbers that seem to track in the real world BTW).

I've been saying for years (going back to my journalism days) that misinformation is the second biggest threat to this country. The biggest threat are those who are dim enough to fall for it.

In my view the greatest threat are those who are too blind and too indoctrinated to see the truth.
Debate night was a kick in the teeth for a whole lot of people who worshiped at the alter of The MSM

I call that gaslighting. That's all they've done. And the moron WH press secretary is the best there is at it.
I can't believe people haven't called her out for straight up lying to the country on a daily basis while trying to cover up for PedoJoe.

Yup.. Dementia Joe ... the smartest guy in the room
Video of the smartest guy in the room tripping over ghosts, babbling word salad and doing the 1000 yard stare...cheap fakes
and the debate night debacle ... he had a cold  ::)
These MSM MF'ers will piss in your ear, tell you it's raining and call you an ignorant mouth breathing hick
when you call them on their lies.
They can tell me 2020 was a clean election till the end of time and I'll never believe them.
They have proven themselves unrepentant boldfaced liars, time,  after time, after time.
At this point, if their lips are moving, it's a given that they are lying.

Quote from: neurosis on July 03, 2024, 06:14 AMAfter looking it up, it wasn't the same thing and looks like the effort actually back fired and worked to Trumps benefit.

They didn't try to secure fake electors. There was an attempt to convince electors to change their vote based on the "popular vote" "faithless electors" pointing out that Hillary did actually win the popular vote and that Trump was unfit for office?

Someone must have blinked an eye because, at least in Washington State (go figure  ), those involved were penalized according to Washington State law. Seems like a meager fine?

I do remember a bunch of protesters in Washington State going around with signs that read "vote your conscience".  I didn't pay much attention to it because this State wouldn't have voted for Trump anyway.

From what I'm reading, "faithless electors" are only illegal in some States? Seems unethical, even if it is legal in a particular State. Maybe the laws need to be more strict on this from State to State since only 15 seem to have laws to impose sanctions on electors for breaking their pledge to cast their vote for their party's nominee?

So the difference I see between the two, one was an attempt to secretly defraud the US election by the current administration, while the other was done publicly and not by the person(s) running for office? I don't think that either should be legal.

Here is an article about the "fake" electors and the reasoning behind it.  Apparently in the 1960s Democrats did the same in Hawaii and Gore was encouraged to do the same in 2000 in Florida.  The difference in the 60s was that Kennedy prevailed in his challenge to the election results and Trump did not.

I've been down all of those rabbit holes.  Pretty extensively.  The Hawaii example doesn't hold up in this case. I haven't seen the Gore example. I'll read that.

I do want to put this out there. After reading through the project 2025 nonsense, I don't have a lot of respect for the heritage foundation or their opinions on anything.
