One of the Scout Leaders in the Boy Scout Troop we were part of read that speech to the Troop during a Court of Honor...

One of the most superb speeches I've ever heard in my life.

I agree with you!  My father who passed away several years ago was in the boy scouts.  After he passed, I got his sash with all the badges.  He had received eagle scout award.

He had also kept all the paper cards that listed what each badge was given out for.  A newspaper clipping of him and 2 others receiving their eagle scout award.  (Think small town 1930's)

I am still planning on having a picture frame made up for it.

That's very cool!

I don't have much of any of my mementos from anything, really.

I was in the boy scouts but never made it to eagle. It was a very important part of making me who I am. I'm thinking of suing them.  ;D  My dad always went on our campouts and activities.

I do have some my dad's stuff from the military. He was an MP in the army in Europe right after WWII. He went back home to Arkansas but couldn't find work. He joined back up with the idea of becoming a heavy equipment operator but then Korea happened. He ended up driving a truck. He was in several major battles. He once described the sound of a bullet hitting the guy next to him as like a hand slapping a side of beef.

I would like to get a more complete copy of my dad's military record.

We had a grave side service for him. An honor guard came down from Fort Riley and gave him full military honors. Rifle salute, bugler playing taps; the flag ceremony. I was very proud to see them do that for this hard working, humble man.

Yes, that was an awesome speech.

My fear is that the current generation doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to succeed at the level required by the Navy Seals and Special Forces at the time that guy went through his training.

The trend has been toward lowering the standards in the regular service rather than expecting individuals to work hard enough to achieve the more rigorous standards.
I don't think that mindset has reached the elite branches yet, but it seems like it's only a matter of time.

Anyway, it is great advice for any kid graduating high school or college today.

My feelings exactly!  When I was in the army a beret was worn by those who had EARNED IT!  It was worked for!

My First born Daughter is an RN. She raised 3 kids while going to school and working.(42)

First Born Son still in the Service Army (30)

Middle Son Journalist Sports (28)

Next Father of 2 Postal Inspector (26)

My Sons absolutely hate me. I was too tough.

My Daughter loves me. She is tougher ,Stronger and works harder than the other 3.

Respect is earned.

But I will Not disrespect an entire generation due to media coverage.

People are so amazed when a group of kids respect and Protect The Flag.

It's news worthy with all the negative coverage.

But they are there. My Kids , Your Kids.

They are just Not Famous.

I did not mean That you (YOU Jim) disrespected them. The Media does they project that the Majority
is a bunch of listless whiners.

What I love about this video is that you have no Idea How Strong you are.

Or Can Be. :)
