Quote from: JakeL on July 22, 2024, 11:40 AMI'd love to learn from you. Hardest part is finding the time. I enjoy CNC programming and the shop I'm at, but I'd love to do more CHook development.
Time is certainly hard to come by if you are working full time and in a relationship and have to manage time with friends.

One of the main reasons I wanted my own business, was that I felt like I was missing  out on everything because I was constantly are work, and not available to do the things I wanted to.

A large middle finger, especially since Joe on the street will be able to roll up in a year or two on the subscription model... And get the same software for peanuts compared to the initial outlay all users had to pay when they bought access to current licenses. Probably, what, 10 years of subscription cost for the initial purchase price? Also how long before all the hasps and any other form of perpetual license is retired?

Better invest in barrels now, lads, cause we're all gonna be over one sooner or later.

This last time I got a quote for a subscription it was quite expensive.
IIRR a 3 year subscription was a slightly more that buying outright but if you include 3 years maintenance
the dollar outlay was less, but at the end of 3 years you had nothing to show for your $$ and no access to Mastercam.

That was before this current price increases and public declaration that subscriptions are the bright new future.
I have no idea what they charge for a subscription now.

Given the political climate in France right now and the results of the last election there,
I wouldn't buy French software at half price. France is on the very edge of being a failed state
and there is zero assurance it's current business structure will survive intact.

Not gonna argue with the state of france but....

USB drive and an airplane ride away you are setup as a software company anywhere in the world.....

Maybe go to Monaco and locate it on a super yatch...that would be sweet..any issues they motor away...they could possibly be the first software company in international waters with its own mercenary squad...

oh boy I bet sandvik would get so jelly....

It must be collusion as that's the same exact model other CAM companies are pushing.  3 years subscription is almost the same as buy and pay 3 years of maintenance.

If one of them decides to cut subscription price by 50% they might make a killing.  and no.... Fusion doesn't count!

No need to apologise :) There is zero talk of subscription with TopSolid. They like their perpetual licenses, and they're owned by themselves.
