Our State Legislature passed a Voter ID bill years ago, and our previous Democrat Governor vetoed it.
Their bullshit excuse was that it unfairly targeted minorities and poor folks who might not have the means to obtain ID's.

Yeah, let that sink in.
I am 1000% positive that minorities and poor people in PA have no trouble obtaining ID's when they need to file for state and federal benefits, yet that somehow infringes on their right to vote if we have the nerve to ask them to prove they are who they say they are.

In addition to applying for state or federal benefits, we have to show ID to buy alcohol, get on an airplane, or even pick up our online order at Home Depot.

But somehow showing ID to vote is some sacred cow to the leftists here in PA, which is also coincidentally a 'swing-state' in recent federal elections.

I doubt you have to show an ID for mail in voting either.

Nope.
That's one reason it is so easy to corrupt it.

Someone wisely observed that it's not votes that win elections anymore, it's ballots.

Quote from: Smit on July 25, 2024, 07:24 PMI don't pay much attention to what's going on in Washington State but if there really is no plan it's going to be a disaster.

I believe federal policy is mandating 50% of cars are EV by 2030, which seems pretty aggressive. I don't know if hybrids are included in that.

It's worse than I make it sound.  Not only do they not have a plan in place, they're going backwards.

I don't know if you paid attention to any of the posts some of us made about tearing down the dams on the snake and columbia rivers?  Washington States 'renewable energy' relies mostly on hydro power that comes from those dams.  There is a battle going on right now between the State and the local natives and the State leans so far to the left that it's considering caving and removing those dams.  If they do, we lose most of our renewable energy.  This is coming right before they implement a 2035 mandate on EV's.  They're also banning natural gas heat for new homes and making it so expensive for those of us who are grandfathered in that we will have to rely on electric heat. This is already playing out.

Washington State has been run almost exclusively by liberals for nearly 50 years.  All of the things that they say they want to fix, they never do.  They want those issues to remain in place.  They don't have a problem raising our taxes and telling us that they want to say, solve the homeless crises, a crises that they are responsible for (I'll explain if you like) all that money just goes to waste.  Not to stroke Incogs ego, but I'm glad I don't live in Seattle.

You know why I don't like Republicans.  This State is why I don't like Democrats.

No, you don't.

I love that we are able to vote by mail in Washington State.  More people are able to vote because of it.

I get why people are skeptical.  Washington State had some growing pains in the beginning but it's not as bad as your typical Republican makes it sound.

If it hadn't been for Trump shitting on mail in voting and telling his base NOT to do it, he may have had a better turn out.  It didn't help that he tried to dismantle the USP while the election was in full swing. Nobody ever talks about that.

The fix is to use absentee voting.

This speaks to the point James made earlier.

California-style liberalism has spread to its neighboring states first, and continues to fester like a plague, infecting one state after another.

I don't feel like we need anything fixed here.

They do rely on signature verification, which I guess could be forged?  There hasn't been many cases of suspected voter fraud here and the penalty is so high that you'd have to be nuts to attempt it.

It may work here because most of the State is liberal anyway?  I don't know.

I do know that there have been a few cases where people have been caught but not many.

Quote from: neurosis on July 26, 2024, 06:12 AMI get why people are skeptical.

People are skeptical because the Dems wanted illegals to vote, no ID required and wanted to give them immediate citizenship no questions asked.
The whole "voter id is racist" narrative was to suppress that fact.
Hence the reason why everyone who has half a brain cell was shitting on mail-in voting.

What's the best way to rig an election? No proof of ID, let EVERYONE vote.
Then allegedly you get 81million "people" voting for PedoJoe.

To be fair, I wouldn't want it run by Republicans either.  My perfect government, to a point that James also constantly makes, is a gridlocked government.

Those are just talking points.  I don't know how it works for local elections, but it's illegal for anyone who isn't a citizen to vote in Federal elections.  If you want to make a case for California and say that they are allowing illegals to vote in Federal elections, even if it were true, it wouldn't make a difference in that State.  That State will never lean to the Right.

If you change that "for pedojoe" to against Trump, it's more believable.

Oh we are stuck with a shitty, dysfunctional 2-party system for sure.

The only question is how much shit you are willing to tolerate.

After the first time voting no ID required. That does seem strange.

No proof at all mail in voting is corrupted. Just sayin.

I have heard about tearing down the dams to go natural but I hadn't heard about the rest of it.

It sounds like your state is a mess. It sounds like the leaders in your state are a mess.

I don't think that's really a national democrat thing though.

I do think we need to move away from fossil fuels but in a responsible manner. Doing away with or driving up the prices all energy in one fell swoop is clearly not serving your citizens best interests.

Not talking points, that's exactly what they wanted to do.
I think first it was Killary that said when elected, she will give every illegal immigrant citizenship.
Then the narrative of voter id being required is racist was parroted EVERYWHERE in the lefty media.

The pendulum definitely swung too far left along this coast.

It's come back a little in Washington thankfully. Not far enough.

I think that most reasonable Democrats aren't a problem.  The left calls them Republicans now.  I think that most Reasonable Republicans aren't a problem. The right calls them RINO's.
