I'd like to see these happen. It's not likely with a Republican house though.

Perhaps next year. :)

Biden unveils a proposal to establish term limits for the Supreme Court

Excerpt:
QuoteWASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has unveiled a long-awaited proposal for changes at the U.S. Supreme Court, calling on Congress to establish term limits and an enforceable ethics code for the court's nine justices. He's also pressing lawmakers to ratify a constitutional amendment limiting presidential immunity.

The White House on Monday detailed the contours of Biden's court proposal, one that appears to have little chance of being approved by a closely divided Congress with just 99 days to go before Election Day.

Still, Democrats hope it'll help focus voters as they consider their choices in a tight election. The likely Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, who has sought to frame her race against Republican ex-President Donald Trump as "a choice between freedom and chaos," quickly endorsed the Biden proposal. She added that the changes are needed because "there is a clear crisis of confidence facing the Supreme Court."

This is election year political grandstanding, all hot air and zero substance
Constitutional Amendments require 3/4 of the states to approve.
Given the ultra partisan nature of these proposals, that is NEVER going to happen.
Most red states will decline to even bring it up for a vote.

All this coming from the guy who's been in government for over 50 years....

How about start at a place it will actually make a difference like the Senate?

I like the 18 year term limit, as long as it also included the legislative branch. 18 years is being super generous I think. 3 terms as senator or 9 as an representative or 1 on the supreme court.

From my seat, often people do not understand the core reason why the two houses of congress exist. It was VERY deliberate and they each serve specific purposes.

The House of Representatives was created to be more responsive to current constituent needs and concerns and so they could be recycled more quickly should the need arise. The fact they are not recycled as often as we would often like is a completely separate issue and points to a deeper problem in our nation.

The Senate was created to be the more deliberative body in Congress. It's why they are charged with confirmation hearings and other more weighty issues and such.

Think of the USA as an ocean and Congress are surfboards. The House would be a Short board and the Senate would be a Long Board.

When the waves are big, you WANT a long board. You NEED a longboard... if for no other reason that to survive.

When the waves are small, you need the speed and response time of a short board.

The founders thought 4 years was too short for a Senator and 8 years was too long so 6 years was thought to be ideal. California has Term Limits. It's not been the panacea it was promised to be. Should there be Term Limits? Yes, but you may not get what you want from them.

I like that idea. Back in the day the average life span was around 60.

There are too many people who are too old in government, imo. RBG, McConnell, Feinstein. Yes, Biden too although Presidents are limited to 2 terms.

I don't think anybody can hold power for as long as some of the people on the supreme court, or congress, who aren't corrupted and jaded by that power.

I can't see Congress ever putting term limits on themselves though.
