I am trying to pull a program off the data server on a Fanuc 16i-MB control and put it on a compact flash card that I plugged in.  I have instructions that lay out how to copy programs from the cnc memory but not the data server.  Anyone familiar with doing this?

I was able to copy from the cnc memory but I don't have enough space to transfer this program from the data server to cnc memory to move it that way without deleting programs so I would like to avoid that if possible.

I'm not absolutely certain you can do this on a 16i. 30i/31i you can with a parameter change easily.

If I were going to give it a shot though, I'd go to Directory, Change Device to Dataserver, Select the program, Select End, Change Device, select the Memory Card, then copy. May work. May not, but it's been like 15 years since I've put my hands on a 16 control so that may not be the exact sequence, but should be in the ballpark.

James,

What you suggested looks like what we would do with our 30i control.  There is no change device soft key on the 16i control we are using, or at least I couldn't find it, I ended up copying a large program from the NC memory to the flash card then deleting it allowing me to move the program I wanted from the data server to the NC memory and then to the flash card.  I just hate deleting programs even when I copy them because I am always fearful something will happen.

Get the slowest, needs to be taken to the gun range computer in the place;
  • wipe the HDD clean

  • install the OS

  • install FileZilla

  • connect it to the machine using a crossover cable

  • assign them both IP addresses

... and be done with it. It would save you SO much grief. Seriously.

We used to be able to ftp to this particular machine but we were recently bought out by another company and when they switched us over to the new servers they neglected to update this machine to that server so we can't access it and getting IT to do what they need to do is a larger pain than it should be.

I have a Fanuc 16 manual  and Parameter manual if you need it.
