If you ever want to get in to a philosophical discussion about anything I would encourage you to talk to that guy. You can tell that he puts thought in to his opinions and doesn't jab just for the sake of jabbing at someone.  Super nice guy and a pleasure to talk to.

LOL! Maureen and I have got quite a few cats at our house (about 10!....I know, I know....). We *do* love kittehs, but we never really set out to have that many. All it takes is just ONE unfixed female and before you know it you've got 5 or 6 more. We've agreed that we'd be just fine with about 4 or 5, but for now we're managing.

After much effort we've finally got every cat within a 10 mile radius fixed, but it really took alot of hard work. A neighbor up the street used to be a vet (actually, it was her husband, now deceased) and she called in some favors with the cat mafia and they trapped and fixed all of the ones we couldn't get to ourselves. Several neighbors have adopted cats and we get pictures and stories about how they're doing-it's quite something. During all of the CV19 nonsense we started to realize that people who were staying home would make trips to visit them-we'd hear a few people talking in front of our house and wonder what's going on, only to realize that they were visiting whoever was out front at the moment. One of our older cats, a Siamese we named Babette, is like the mayor of our street-everybody knows her! We can tell when she really likes someone because she'll hear them from inside the house and make moves to get outside, where she'll visit with them, and demonstrate her affection by rolling around at their feet.

A number of neighbors have dogs, most of whom are quite friendly with cats, and they structure their walks to make sure there is a kitty sighting...it's quite funny.

Quote from: Incogneeto on August 03, 2024, 03:23 PMTwo of the girls here have Maine coons

When we first moved in our neighbors had a big grey cat that used to visit during the day, and then go back home at night. He finally adopted us after about a year and lived to be either 21 or 23 (they're unsure of exactly when they got him as a kitten). They thought he was either a Maine Coon or perhaps a Norwegian Forest cat, probably 15 or 16 lbs, used to get into fights with racoons on occasion.

I don't know if this is insulting to ask, and don't answer if you don't want to, but how old are you?

A bunch of our cats have got blue eyes (as my wife says "the Siamese force runs strong in our house!"), though with the exception of Babette (who adopted us) none of them are purebred. There are also tabbies, torties/brindled, calicos, orange tabbies, all-black/mostly black with "undies", Siamese-mixed. I really wasn't kidding when I said "all makes and models."

Not a problem....Cough! Cough! I just turned 59, and I can hardly believe it, either! Like....WTF! How did this happen?

How old are most folks here, generally? I'm sensing lots of older folks somehow-50's and 60's, yes? (Although now that I re-read this, that's still sorta young for this trade it seems).

I laugh sometimes when you meet somebody out and about (party, bar, etc) and they ask what you do-lots of folks have no idea what a machinist does (especially the younger crew), though there are exceptions to this rule of course.

A bit of a tangent, but we're gonna try to make it to IMTS, and it would be fun to meet anybody from this group if our schedules align. I've enjoyed reading stuff here even though I don't use MasterCam-it's just fascinating to me to hear about what sorts of things people make, what machines they're using, industries served, etc.

I haven't been to IMTS in a while.  If I got the opportunity I'd meet up. Chicago is a blast.  I've been to IMTS 4 times now but the current owner probably won't be as liberal with the travel and the hotels.  I'd have to go on my own.
