Luckily the scars are all under the shirt line so I don't look like a freak.
This morning I was reminded that it's not where or how we start that matters, but about where or how we finish.

Yeah-wow! I remember you mentioned this quite some time back-very glad you're still here to tell the tale! Talk about a bad trip....

I don't think I did anything but drink till my mid 20's or so. A neighbor went off to UC Santa Cruz, and she got some mushrooms from a friend. We hung out at her dorm and took them with some orange juice. I remember listening to her roommate regale me with stories of a breakup with her bf, and after about 45 minutes I just started laughing! I had to apologize and tell her that I wasn't amused at her misfortune, but that the trip had just begun! So we just hung out and looked at stuff around the room....we were looking at the curtains and what she described and what I described were not at all the same thing. I wouldn't call it a crazy profound experience, but it was useful, and quite fun as well.

I definitely came to appreciate how much of your life sorta "happens" in your head-sure, your body is in the world, and that's where physical events occur...making parts, meeting people, getting paid, traveling around town, etc....the mundane stuff. But inside your head is sorta where the action is-where you derive meaning, make judgements about things, find pleasure or pain in these things. It's interesting to see how different folks can perceive the same events very differently. Just because it's "just in your head" doesn't mean it's imaginary. I remember how "leaden" it could feel when you broke up with some girl you really liked-totally took the wind outta your sails-ugh. Totally in your head-nothing physically wrong with you, except you felt awful.

The last time I took 'shrooms my mom and I went to SF and hit the museums (no, she didn't partake, but was fully aware of what was going on)-it was great! It was just up to the edge of being "too much"....sorta over-stimulating. There's just so much sensory input in an urban setting like that-it's pretty intense at times. Notable features of anything-the artwork, people's facial expressions, etc. felt exaggerated, as if they were set in high relief. She was a very cool lady-very lucky she was my mom... we had lots of freedom growing up but it never got too out of hand!

Oh man-another wall of text! And I probably sound like some kind of California fruit loop! LOL! But I've enjoyed reading of folks youthful exploits here, and sure am glad you guys lived to tell the tale! I hope there isn't much regret or pain there (though I acknowledge that often that's the mechanism required to understand that something is wrong and needs fixing!). Sorta like when something gets loud in the shop!

A great Will Rogers quote: "Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement."

Here's that 'shroom-induced laugh attack!

I did shrooms 40 years ago. The next day my jaw and cheeks were sore from all the laughing we did the night before. I wouldn't mind trying it again.

I'd never had what could be called a bad trip, but for the most part my head was in an OK place at the time. I'm also glad I didn't get involved with stuff like this in my teens.

I've come across a few articles recently that describe using mushrooms in some sort of therapeutic setting, but I can't remember exactly where I saw this.

As I've gotten older I've really become aware of how there are so many forces in the world that are greater than ourselves, and that we've got to tread carefully!

Del.
