How's that working out for 'em?
  :whistle:

NASA: We need you to build us a crewed spacecraft
Boeing: A crude spacecraft? No problem

NASA: It must take Astronauts to the space station.
Boing*: Got it
Also Boing*: Guys, they said nothing about returning them. Piece of cake.

Yup
Boeing quoted $4 billion..they are 6 years behind schedule, losing their ass and failing.
They are sending the capsule back empty on Sept 6 and the thrusters will be destroyed during the reentry
so they will not be available for trouble shooting.

Spacex quoted $2 billion, made a profit and are sending people back and forth
on a regular basis.
I have no idea how many successful manned flights they've done to date.
I believe SpaceX is launching the first every civilian space walk mission next week.

And is it true that Boeing didn't do any testing? They just made the module, put people in it and sent it up?

If I remember correctly, the first time it went up unmanned and ended early, it was revealed that they had tested each system individually but didn't do a nose to tail comprehensive test.

I'm working on a project where a lot of effort is being expended to meet useless specs, when there is no process in place to check the over all product. That's part of what happened to the Titan sub.

The money shot;
"One Boeing worker, who asked to stay anonymous, told The Post, "We have had so many embarrassments lately, we're under a microscope. This just made it, like, 100 times worse. We hate SpaceX. We talk s–t about them all the time, and now they're bailing us out."
That's funny I don't care who you are. :laughing::sweat_smile::joy::joy:

That's probably how "Ford guy" thinks about the Chevy that tows his car back to the dealer together it fixed for the nth time. :sweat_smile::rolling_on_the_floor_laughing::joy:

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams' return: Boeing employees 'embarrassed, humiliated' after Boeing Starliner failure
Boeing employees are 'humiliated' because they have to take help from rival Elon Musk's SpaceX for the rescue of the NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.

We have done work for SpaceX. During some of the initial meetings with their engineers they made it a point of saying they don't go re-inventing the wheel. If a part is available at the local hardware store, that's what they design around.

Boeing...they re-invent every fucking switch, lever, seat and whatever else. Very few parts are "off the shelf". Shit like that is what kills budgets and makes reliability dependent on custom components. Things like space suits not being compatible with the competition is fucking stupid.
